If you're going next month, online check-in should already be available to you via My Disney Experience.

You can add room requests to your reservation via phone any time from the day you book up until 4-5 days out.

Are you only wanting a renovated room no matter what section? If so, I would call and just have them put that on your reservation. If you want a specific section, like the 70's, you should be able to put that on your online check in already.
