Room requests- or not?

Well I just returned from my stay at POR on Saturday. I arrived on 11/5 and mentioned above how I used the TP's room request fax for the first time. I did put in 3 rooms just in case and explained why I wanted a certain building. I was booked in a garden view royal room. I requested the Oak Manor building, with a room on the river side of the building and chose 3 specific rooms- and I did get 1 one of those rooms, so I was very happy. I did online check-in and the requests I put on there were corner room and 2nd floor. I ended up getting all of my requests and the specific room request, and noticed on my MDE that I was actually upgraded from garden view to pool view. I will be using this feature again. I was not expecting any request to be fulfilled, so I was pleasantly surprised! Also this was the first time I did online check-in and I will continue to use it in the future. By the time I was in line for DME, I got a text that my room was ready, with the room number and I was able to skip the front desk and go straight to my room - this was awesome! :thumbsup2

I always book the cheapest room. Never ask for a room request.

Then on check in, have my cute daughter come up and ask me "daddy, can we see the pool from our room"?

I look at the CM checking us in, slide her a $20 bill and ask her to see what she can do. Most of the time we have had very good luck doing this.

The $20 trick is kind of universal in its tactics and works very well in places like Las Vegas. Adding the cute little girl at disney helps tug at the heart strings. Most CM's have a little freedom to change in and out of rooms as needed. $20, a cute kid, and a polite dad make faxing room requests, not needed.

Sometimes you will get the request. Sometimes you won't. It can't hurt to make the request(s) unless you will be overly disappointed if you don't get them.

We always make requests- sometimes got them, sometimes didn't. As long as you don't have any expectations- it can't hurt. It is a REQUEST, not a GUARANTEE- so with that in mind, it never hurts to ask. These days we rely on the CL concierge to hook us up. We call and tell them what we are looking for in general terms- and trust them to do their best for us. If you are on CL I would recommend calling them. If not, a fax to the room assigner gets the same information to the person that needs it. The way we look at it is whether our requests are fulfilled or not we will be at WDW, so it's all good.

Our family has had 4 trips since May(differant groups of people) May POP requested 60s lakeview early checkin, got 80s room not ready we were moved to 50s in a ready room. August ASMovies requested Mighty Ducks got request. Oct CSR used touring plans did not get room or building, happy with what we got. Nov CBR requested close to food court did not get request

We used the TP fax service for our trip this week and it was useless. We had the same type of request noted directly on our reservation too and it did nothing for us.

Never hurts to try. My requests have been fulfilled 90% of the time. My recent request at the Yacht Club to be away from the pools was not granted, instead we were given a room facing the quiet pool dead on! I went downstairs to guest services and was quickly re-accommodated to the view of a peaceful and serene pond.

I always request a ground floor room near the pool and we always get just that. In fact, the past 4 times we've been directly across from the pool at Pop and they didn't charge us extra.

I've always made room requests and so far have gotten what I asked for all but one time. That one time when I saw what we were assigned at the check in desk I asked if something else was available that was more to what I wanted and they gave it to me.

That said, the requests I make are very general. Such as, a certain building or floor. I feel like keeping in general gives me the best possible chance of getting it and so far it's worked for me.

My next trip in a couple of weeks is only for 4 days and we have opted to make no requests. LOL....we are going during POP Warner week and will be staying at one of the PW resorts. :scared1: It's the only weekend we could get away and the only resort that had availability. I'm hoping that the PW kids all stay in the same building....far away from me.

I made a request for my last trip. I booked a Garden View Royal Room at POR. I wanted to be on the same side as the river (not the parking lot) so the was a little closer to the food court. I made this request by calling. When I did online check-in, I made the request to be on an upper floor. I got a message that asked if having a room available when I arrive is more important than my request. I checked NO. I was willing to wait to get my requests. I arrived at the resort about 11:00. I got the text that the room was ready by 12:15. It was on the same side as the river and it was second floor. Great Location!

Just got back from CBR and did online check in and had TP fax a request for us. I got both of our requests (Martinique and upper floor)
