Room Requests...do I bother?

Just curious...is it worth it to fax in your room requests/preferences a few days before arrival? We will be there from July 11-18th and staying at AKL and BWV......I have gotten some tips on which rooms/trails to request at both locations and how to draft the letter, but does it actually work out?

Thanks so much!!!

We faxed our room requests just prior to our last visit to the Coronado Springs resort. We simply asked for a specific building and were given the one we requested. Nothing too complicated like a specific room number.

I plan to fax my requests again when we visit this May. It can't hurt to try and more than likely, you'll get at least the building/view you request.

Hi there...

I think it is a good idea as long as you are not too specific - that can only lead to disappointment! (unless you get really lucky)

But a certain view, building, general area can't hurt...

Good Luck!

I have not tried BWI - but we loved our stay at AKL.

Have fun

I don't ask for much (no smoking and a particular building), but I've always gotten what I've requested. The desk staff frequently says "we've got just what you wanted." I think they don't mind as long as you're reasonable.

I would first put your requests on your reservation record by calling CRO or whoever you made the reservation with. You can fax to confirm. I've found that I usually get what I want by putting it on the record and also faxing.

Does anyone have the fax number needed to make room/reservation special requests? We'll be going to the AKL and BWI for Halloween week and would love to take a shot at an upgrade or better view. All they can say is no right? : ) - Thanks, Nancy

We stayed at the Beach Club two years ago. I requested a room with two queen beds and a full balcony. It was noted on our reservation.

A few days before our trip, I faxed my request.

We arrived in the evening - our room had two double beds and a small balcony. My husband complained (we were celebrating my 50th birthday). We were upgraded to concierge, which was very nice.

We are staying at the Yacht Club this year because I know we will have two queens and a full balcony. I am not going to bother with any other requests. I really don't think it helps.

Last trip was the only time I made requests (through my tavel agent), and all were acommodated. I was very impressed!

We faxed ours and recieved exactly what we wanted. I think we would do it again. We did leave requests when we made the reservation, however when you take the time to fax the request, I think that lets the room assigner know that it is important to you. We also only asked for non-smoking and a building. Have fun.

As a previous poster said, don't be disappointed if you don't get exactly what you requested (except that I think it was definitely OK to be upset in that BC situation!) Once at POR, I requested AB-after 4 trips to POR, I'd never stayed in AB. Boy, was I disappointed when I got there and I got the Mansions AGAIN, even though it was a different Mansion than I'd ever stayed in. Well, I moped around for an hour or 2, but when I came out of my moping, I realized that I had an absolutely beautiful view-it was the nicest I'd ever had. If only I hadn't gotten my heart set on having my request fullfilled, I could have enjoyed my trip from the beginning, instead of moping around at the happiest place in the world!

Can part of the request be an early check in?

Friday we arrive at the airport at 11:30am and by the time we get the car and drive to AKL it will be around 1pm......

We will be staying Fri-Sun at AKL and want to go over first thing Sun. AM to check in, get our length of stay passes and then go into the parks....don't think the room will be ready (1 bedroom, standard view) but would like midday to go back and do grocery shopping before we go back in at night...your thoughts??

I have been told by desk CM's that they do their best to meet your FIRST request. Make sure to put the thing most important to you first on your list.

Early check-in is a hard one to fill if you have other requests. If you will accept any room, they can sometimes have one clean if you get there early. I've had them say when checking in at 1:00 that the room they have assigned to me meets my requests but it is not ready. Then they will check if another room is clean, usually they are the leftovers (not pre-assigned) and aren't in desirable locations. So you have to make a choice to either take that one or wait until 3:00 or 4:00 for the one that meets your requests. Sometimes you will get lucky and your pre-assigned will be ready early. BWV will refrigerate your groceries if you want to go shopping early.

You can ask for whatever you wish to ask for. No guarantee you will get any of it.

Certainly getting too specific limits your chances. Realistically they can't grant everyone, everything they want.

If you want early checkin, you pretty much have to take whatever is available. If you want more than that, you will probably have to wait until after check in time of 3 or 4pm.

Also realize occupany level of the hotel when you are there really affects their ability to grant requests. If the hotel is full and many other people have made requests then the chances of success diminish.

Sandi, has an excellent tip, Be Reasonable.

Are non-smoking rooms a request only? My boyfriend has asthma and shouldn't be in a smoking room. Since its for a medical reason, could I get a non-smoking room guaranteed?

Yes, I have requested a non-smoking room twice for medical reasons, and I have always been told it will be guaranteed for medical reasons.

I made a faxed room request to the BWV when we stayed there last Nov. We had rented points for a standard view. I don't even remember what I requested other than a non-smoking room on a high floor. We ended up with an upgraded view, which I thought was great! Our studio was on the 5th floor directly overlooking the Luna Park pool :) I don't know for sure that my faxed request got us the upgraded view, but I think that it might have had something to do with it!

I have had GREAT luck with faxed room requests 2 times now. The key is, as others have said, is to be reasonable, not too specific, and know what is most important to you.

We've had great luck with faxing room requests to WL -- got exactly what we wanted every time!

Not so good with the other resorts. Specifically asked for a room close to the lobby at YC and AKL because of the grandparents, and both times got sent to the boonies. HOWEVER, both times we asked for a room change immediately, and were accommodated very nicely. Never an upgrade, mind you, but rooms closer in, which is what we wanted.

So, the lesson is -- it never hurts to ask!:p

Oh, by the way, if you get to the hotel early, just store your luggage with Bell Services, and the front desk will give you a card with a phone number to call to find out your room, when it is ready. That way, you are free to go to the parks or whatever without waiting around for your room to be finished. Either that, or take whatever's available . . .
