We have our first DVC stay coming up, and our waitlist for a standard view studio at the VGF just became available! We are not familiar with this resort at all! any tips? anything we must do/see? and finally, what type of room requests should we put in? thanks!
The live entertainment in the lobby in the afternoon/evenings is something to catch at least once. All of the restaurants are very good. The gift shops are split up into convenience, men's, women's, and kid's and are worth checking out. There is a spa across the driveway from the villas. The Poly is a short walk away and its fun to walk over to Trader Sam's and/or the Tambu Lounge, BouTiki, etc. The quickest way to the MK is the monorail and the quickest way back is the boat. There are two pool areas both with bars that have QS. The QS indoors is open 24/7. There are a couple of nice areas where you can watch the MK fireworks.
This is a great thread to help decide on what room requests you want.
The building is shaped like a T. The lower the number the farther down the hallway you wil be. We stayed in 1403 in September. We had a beautiful view of the main GF building, the pool, and the monorail. This thread may help you decide what you want to request. It has maps and pictures of views submitted by different posters. http://www.disboards.com/threads/vgf-villas-views-updated-12-03-2015.3192814/ This is the view we had.
We are obsessed with Gasparilla Grill (the QS on the other side of the lobby) for breakfast, they make awesome mickey waffles and are (by Disney standards) quite cheap!
A don't miss for us is taking the walkway over to the Poly. It's about a 5 minute walk but it's like having 2 resorts at your fingertips. If you like coffee especially don't miss the Kona Cafe coffee bar, it's by far the best coffee I've found! (It opens at 7:30 so you can walk over, grab a coffee, hop on the monorail and make it to MK pretty early too).
We also really enjoy taking advantage of the boat from the Grand over to MK, it's a smaller but fun boat and an easy ride. Surprisingly the wait time is usually not long at all.
Our room faced towards the main building and monorail (we could see the fountain below), not sure the number but being on that side we had a clear view of the fireworks and really enjoyed watching them on the balcony.
