I made my first ressies for our first trip home (SSR) in Dec and I received a paper confirmation of the reservation via mail. Through research on this sight I also requested a specific room. I understand that it is just a request and I might not get it but I was wondering if that request should have shown up on the confirmation I received. The only room request that it showed was non-smoking. Just curious.

Do NOT request a specific room. You will be far less likely to get what you want that way. Instead you should specify what views, conditions etc that are important to you. This would be like non-smoking, near pool, near elevator, DTD view etc.

If you request a single room and it is not available, the room assignor will have NO idea where to put you.

By December there will be 500+ rooms available at the resort. The odds of you getting the one room requested are....about 1 in 500.

I'd suggest restructuring your request in the manner that dianeschlicht suggested.

This really is not quite right. If a specific room is requested... and the assigner actully tries to meet the request... and nobody else is requesting the same room on the same day of arrival... then your chance of getting the room would be approximately 1/"room turnover rate". So for example... if the average stay was 7 days... your chance of getting that room would be 1/7, not 1/500.

Still, I think the advice of NOT requesting a specific room is good advice... and I would reinforce that recomendation.

To answer your question. yes, it should have shown up. We requested a preferred room and when I got the confirmation letter it says "preferred room" on it. They need this info in the system because these rooms are a higher rate. Also, any other requests you have will (should) be listed too. Such as water view, non-smoking, etc...

Thanks for the advice. I will call back and request the DTD view etc. I guess I am just confused because I keep reading posting that people are asking for specific room recommendations but I am not sure now at what point to make a specific room request or even bother with it.

If someone else moved into that specific room that you want on the day before you arrive, you have zero chance of getting that room. People who request a specific room number are setting themselves up for a big disappointment. However, when you arrive, you could ask at the desk if that specific room was available. If it is, you could ask for that room instead of the room you have been assigned.

When we checked into OKW, they had a garden view room available, but we wanted a water view. So they found a water view for us that was going to be available later on in the day. We waited and got a great room.

Yes, Call back and ask for room requests. Give them all your requests and they will add them to the reservation. You dont need to ask for a fridge though. I was just told yesterday that all hotels on Disney property have fridges complementary. So, call and make all room requests. Then about 4 days before you arrive you can fax the specific hotel a room request to the room assignor. You still may not get what you want but you will have a better chance of it. Some people say not to bother with room request faxes because they just ignore it. I called the hotel (CBR in the case) and they welcome them.

Just dont demand anything. Ask for it in a very nice manner. Go here for a sample room request fax. (toward the bottom)

That isn't the case with DVC Resorts. Here is some informtion:

This information comes direct from Disney's DVC Member Services:

"The established procedure and appropriate time for making special room requests is when you make your reservation with Member Services. If you have any additional requests, or changes to your original request, call Member Services directly. Please do not call or fax the resort where you'll be staying. To be fair to all Members, the only information we use when trying to honor special room requests is that which comes from Member Services.

With so many Members having special requests, it's important that everyone follow this established procedure. As you can imagine, the number of Members asking for particular rooms, views, floors, and buildings makes it impossible to honor all of the requests. We do our best to honor your requests, but please understand that we cannot guarantee them."

You can also find it on AllEarsNet.com. Just scroll to the bottom of the page.

Um, okay. Wasnt aware they were DVC.

Anyway, if you're not DVC then what I said is acurate. Straight from the horses mouth at Disney.

Perhaps you should try the "my first choice would be room 1042 if it is available. If it is not, then I'd like a non-smoking DTD view room if possible". That way, you give them your specific room choice plus an "area" choice if the specific room isn't available.

I don't tend to make room requests other than non-smoking (and one time I requested the elevator building at OKW), and truthfully, I have never ended up with what I would consider to be a "terrible" room.

Once when we stayed at the WL (hotel not villas), we got a fantastic rate on a room, but it was overlooking the smokehouse. Not the most fantastic or scenic view, but it was actually quite interesting to watch the goings on there. It almost felt like a "behind the scenes" thing!
