Room Request

My TA always makes a note of my requests when booking, and so far I haven't been disappointed! (No need to have Disney talk directly with me, as my awesome TA takes care of everything, saving me the trouble.)

I forgot to ask my TA last trip about putting in a request and she was away when I realized it and were close to the trip so I did it through Touring Plans. Got what we were hoping for. So I don't think it makes a difference if you have a TA or not. The only thing with TP is that you have to specify a particular room rather than a basic request like high floor or close to lobby. I'm not sure what TP sends to the resort - that particular room or a request for something like that room or in that area.

Also be aware that TP floor plans may not 100% accurate. Our very first deluxe resort trip in 2000 we stayed at BWI and got a king bed room on the ground floor facing into the rose garden. We loved that room. We were staying at BWI last month and I checked TP floor plans and it stated that the room was 2 queens. I recall that the room was a bit smaller than the other rooms and I didn't think it would be comfortable with 2 queens so I requested a room around the corner so that we'd at least be in the same area. We ended up being put into the same room we had in 2000 and it's still a king room, not 2 queens.

Still, I wouldn't hesitate to use the service again.

I have used TP on our last 3 trips and we have NOT gotten anything even close to the rooms we requested. I was okay with that as I understand that a request is just a request.

If I am using a Travel Agent can I only make a room request through the TA (I was going to use Touring Plans fax method)?
If you are using a TA, that TA owns your reservation, not you. Disney will not talk to you about your own reservation. Your TA will have to make a room request or you'll have to do it through Touring Plans, and request a specific room, not general terms.

:thanks: You've all confirmed what I was assuming. I'll stick with our TA because we have 2 rooms and want to be next to each other.

You can still use the TP fax. When selecting a room on TP, there is a place to put comments and you can certainly request that the two rooms are connecting or next to each other and even say you would like a room like the one you are requesting. I've done both for years (noted requests through TA and used TP fax). A few years ago, I used TP very successfully to get connecting rooms at GF. Certainly not guaranteed, but they obviously read the fax!

The past 5 trips we have booked through a TA and used Touring Plans room request fax. I have my TA make a note on our reservation for ground floor and for our rooms to be near each other and we use TP's as well. Only 1 trip, we did not get our room request met at POR in Nov 2018, but we did get ground floor. We do understand that it is only a request, but we have gotten lucky - more so in September than our November trip in 2018. This past September trip, we got the exact rooms we requested at POFQ through Touring Plans. We were pleasantly surprised! FWIW, all of those trips but one, we had 3 rooms and we were next to each other for each of those trips. This years trip we will have 2 rooms at Pop Century, so I will be doing the same thing.

Just to be clear, TP is now an email and not a fax.

While you “select” a specific room to request, the first line will have something like “SE Facing View: 3514, 3515, 3516...” which is in room assigner-speak so that they know the general area.

As has been said, you can use the box to add details. Generally it is best to limit the specifics to no more than 3, avoid negatives (don’t use “no” or “not” as that little word is often unintentionally overlooked as the assigners are working quickly), and most importantly put them in a priority order so that the assigner knows what is most important. Also make sure you are requesting a room in the category you have booked.

As an example, when I stayed at Sports, my list read:
I would like to request (in this order):
1 - Surfs Up section (I had booked preferred, so this was cool)
2 - Top Floor
3 - Corner room

In that case I ended up with the first two and one down from a corner.

The time I stayed at French Quarter, it was similar with a building number, top floor, and a corner room - I only got the corner room.

The priority list would enable them to check for the first request first, then see if any meet the second also, and so forth. If the first request cannot be met, they would then check the second. And so forth.

But regardless, requests are just that. No guarantees.

:thanks: You've all confirmed what I was assuming. I'll stick with our TA because we have 2 rooms and want to be next to each other.
Each of your reservations need to include "Traveling with Res #" on each reservation. Then the room assigner knows you are together.
