Dear all,
We will be staying at OKW in Nov,here is my request;
I would like to stay in a studio, preferably in one of the new buildings with a decent view and somewhere quiet, not right next to the pool or check in etc, maybe by the quiet pool,if there is such a thing,I also do not want to be miles away from the action either, could anyone help me out with what buildings are good to choose etc?
Also I read on this board that the noise from the adjoining 1 Bed homes etc is terrible at OKW,Is this true?I am really worried now as we have just signed up for a resale and I do not want our vacation ruined by loud sound from other rooms,if I wanted that I would go and stay on International drive!!!!!!!Please can anyone help put my mind at rest here,
Many thanks. :(

Do you hear noise when standing by the connecting door? Yes. Is it constant and likely to ruin your vacation? A great big NO. Excess noise would be because of a "problem" group next door. A reasonable family with a reasonable level of activity shouldn't be a problem.

I don't like any child to get hurt but one time a family came in to the studio next door. There was lots of yelling and running around. Suddenly there was a big bang and then a mother sternly yelling at a child for what he had done to his sister. No more noise that trip. ;)

OKW is laid out so just about everyone is along the golf course or the canal area. Requesting a golf course view would probably be best for your first trip. The "new" buildings were put up where they took down the sales office so they are right in the front area which goes against your original request. Nothing at OKW is very far away and if you don't feel like walking you just hop the bus for a stop or two. Relax, you've made an excellent choice and it will be NOTHING like International Drive.

We had a studio at OKW last August that would fit your needs! It overlooked the golf course. It was in one of the new buildings which aren't very far from the check in area and main pool but definitely far enough that you will not hear noise. It was quiet....too quiet. Actually it was so quiet that my dh joked about being at a retirement community.

Lesley,
What was your unit number or room number if you remember?? Sounds like a winner for us, too!

Maybe we've just been lucky, but we've never had any problems with "noisy" neighbors. The most distracting noise came from the buses as they made the run. We spent our first night last Dec. at the Wyndham on International Drive (near the road) and trust me, there is NO comparison between that and OKW. Someone besides me must like it or all the OKW points there wouldn't be sold out.

our studio was very close to the bus route and we heard the buses going by what seemed like all night. It's kind of funny, but when you close your eyes and listen it sounds like you are standing near test track in epcot. It makes the same sort of a whizzing noise (don't ask me how those big lumbering buses sound the same as a car going around a curve at 65mph, but they do!) Made us feel a little closer to the parks ;-)

Anyway, on our second stay at OKW we were separated from the road by a block of trees and it made all the difference. Not a bus to be heard.

The new buildings are 62,63, and 64.

Lesley,
I think OKW would make a great retirement community! All they need to add is an assisted living arrangement, lol. I would love to retire there!

Madmouse,
We were in a 1 bdrm. and there was a lot of noise coming from the studio -- at first I thought my DH had the TV on really loud. They really should have found a way to insulate those doors better. But it isn't that big of a deal.

Cheers :)

I have been a member at OKW since 1992. On our first trip we were in the 2 bedroom directly under the model of the Grand Villa that was used for thr sales tours. Housekeeping got in there early to make sure it was clean and vacuumed at 6:00 AM. My sister heard it the loudest because she was sleeping on the pullout couch in the living room. One call to the front desk and vacumming was done at a more reasonable hour!
I can only remember one time that we had a really noisy family in the studio next door. They checked in late one afternoon when we were relaxing after a day in the parks and trying to decide where to have dinner. They came in rather exuberantly and proceeded to try all the doors in the studio including the connecting door. I think it was the children who kept banging on the door on our side and jiggling the knob. We heard things like "It's stuck." and "I can't open it." We ignored it and then they came out on their balcony and proceeded to gawk through the windows at us. At that point we were getting ready to call the front desk to have them informed that they were intruding on another guest's room. Someone in the group must have finally guessed that our unit was on the other side of the door because they eventually stopped banging on the door. They were only there one or two nights and I can surmise that they were paying guests rather than members. Now we can laugh about it.
Relax you made the right choice OKW is nothing like the hotels on I-Drive (especially those on the north end of I-Drive above Sand Lake Road). It is even nicer than the Omni where I stayed for a conference two years ago. My stay at OKW for 5 days after that conference was a delight.
Don't worry, you'll love OKW.
