Room Request - Standard when you’ve booked Preferred?

I have a strange room request question. Has anyone successfully requested a room in a lower category than the one they’ve booked?

We reserved Pop - Preferred because it was the only category available for our dates.

But we’d really like to stay as close to the Skyliner as possible, facing the lake. Those rooms are technically standard, not preferred. (We’re not concerned about getting a credit for the price difference, I have no idea if that is even a thing.)

if we make that request, will we throw the room assigners off? Or will they not care & just think we have no idea what we actually booked? Or will they just ignore it? 🤣

Has anyone done this before, and if so, what happened? Would love your thoughts.

Good question and I get your point. I have never stayed at Pop, but I wouldn't put it past Disney making just that into a room category at some point.

I’m not sure if they’ll care or not. They may ignore. But I’d request building 4 in the 60’s, lake view. Even if you end up preferred in this building, you’ll still be pretty close to the Skyliner. You can also try to make a switch once you check in if you’re not happy with your room assignment. Good luck! :goodvibes

I'll be trying something similar soon: I have a few reservations strung together, one of which is water-view while the others are standard (CSR). As we would rather not move rooms midway through the trip, I'm hoping they can put us in standard the whole time and "pay forward" our waterview room to someone who booked a standard instead. We'll see how it goes.

I think they changed some of the rooms next to the skyliner Into preferred when they use to be standard.

Me too...I hope a standard for us is pixie dust for someone else!

That is really interesting! Thank you so much for that info. Have you seen a new map reflecting this change anywhere? All of the ones I've seen so far have lake view rooms listed as standard, even on Touring Plans. If you can point me to one that would be amazing!

I cant say for sure, the cm told me that some were changing when we were there in June. ...
You know Disney if there is a chance to make more money

Very true.

I guess we’ll wait for reports from multiple guests on this. I know the Pop CM’s have told me some crazy things over the years. I feel like some just make up things as they go along. More than once I’ve been told me they only have standard rooms in the 80’s and 90’s sections. I once overheard a CM explain to a family that the only way to get to Aof A was a bus. I took them out to show them the bridge. Lol.
