Room Request Question

Has anyone ever requested a specific room and gotten it? Last year we stayed at the Polynesian in the Tokelau building. I had requested to be close to the beach and we were put in the last room on the other end of the building. We are planning our Nov. trip now and was wondering if I should request a particular room number (or close to it). I do realize these are only requests and not always possible to grant.

Specific rooms are much harder to get although not impossible. The problem comes mainly from the fact that the room assigners block your requests three days prior to your arrival. If someone is already in the room you wanted and they aren't leaving before you get there, you are out of luck.

I always ask at check-in where my room is even when I've made prior requests. If I don't like the location they show me on the map, I always ask for another room (nicely) and show them the area(s) I'd be willing accept. Sometimes I have to compromise, most times I get what I ask for.
