Can anyone tell me if your chances of getting a better view/room is better if you DO NOT make request for a room, building,or floor? Or is it best to make a request? I know it is just a request . I am just wondering if they like it best when you don't put in requests for all that stuff. Does it take away the magic in any way? Are you less likely to get an upgrade? Or do the prefer requests. I know it is a lot of questions. Sorry!

Thanks!

First time we decided to stay on site I booked pref location at ASMo to assure Fantasia bldg but didn't put in any "room requests". I was given a very nice room on a quiet wing of Fantasia which thrilled us as I didn't realize just how close to the pools you could be!!!

Our 2nd & 3rd times onsite I kept my request simple: non-smoking, a bldg preference, top floor and the need for a refrigerator. We were very pleased to be in the bldg we wanted on the floor we requested. Could we have been more specific about the room # or wing we wanted....probably, but I like a little bit of magic in the equation. And who knows, maybe you'll end up in an area you didn't know about that's REALLY nice. That's certainly what happened to us at the Dolphin!!!

We just got back from doing a split stay at WL and AKL (Jan 9th-Jan 15th). I did my research and using the Unofficial Guide's recommendation made very specific requests as far as the general location we wanted when I made the ressies with CRO. I called a few days before we left to make sure they were noted (which they were). Unfortuantely at neither the WL or AKL did we get assigned the location I had requested. Thankfully the CMS at check-in were GREAT. I told them each time the exact view I wanted and they said 'let me see what I can do'. At WL we wound up on the fifth floor, courtyard view, looking out over the lake with the pool in the foreground. At AKL we wound up fourth floor, third building from the end, looking into the Arusha savanna from the Kudu trail. Both views were perfect. I would do my research and make the requests when I called CRO so it would be noted for the CM at check-in, but then wait until check-in to make sure.

I never request anything beyond non-smoking & medical necessities. I have never been disappointed & always had magical stays..... I like the surprise.

Oh wait! Yes, I did make a request once - for connecting rooms at ASMo! I almost forgot that. Not only did we not get connecting or adjoining rooms - we didn't even get the same building! That was my 5th trip & I guess I decided to not even bother trying after that. The trip was still great. (It was two families meeting in WDW & we would have liked to have been closer, not a need as in a family needing two rooms)

It depends on where you stay. The CBR says they welcome them but others like DVC do not.

Thanks for all the replies. I was just wondering if I should make any requests for our WL stay as to which floor/ area of the buildings or if I have a better chance of waiting and seeing what we get. I did rewuest NON smoking DH and DS take medication for allergies and Asthma. The CM told me agin that connecting rooms are guaranteed for familys.

Thanks again!

I have found that my requests are rarely accommodated though I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. Last time I tried to make a request with CRO (high up floor with a view) the CM said I could only ask for one thing and told me to decide which was more important to me. I chose to request a specific view. We'll see what happens.

In the days before "internet" when I knew nothing about codes, requests, WDW in general we stayed at All Star Music and made no requests. It was one of the slowest times of the year and we ended up way back in Country Inn, which is the farthest building from anything. I think, had we known what we do now and requested a closer building, we probably would have got one as I'm sure the resort was not even close to being full.

I have had good luck just chatting with the CMs at check-in and making my requests then. At WL, I politely asked what were the chances of getting a King Room and the CM went out of her way to accomodate my request (she had to juggle a few codes). I had the same luck at the Dolphin last year. At check-in I commented about getting a King Bed (which was in reservation) and a nice view (though I had booked standard) and I ended up in a 12th (Concierge) Floor room with a King Bed and an amazing view.

I always think a little politeness at check-in can go a long way.
