Room Request, call or fax?

We have made room requests previously by calling the resort, with varying degrees of successfulness. I understand that you aren't gauranteed a room in that area, it is merely a request. But we would very much like to put in a request for a room at the POP for our upcoming vacation in a couple weeks. Is calling ok, or is faxing a better alternative? Calling is much more convienient as we don't really have great access to faxing, but it's not impossible either. And previously we've put in our request twice, once a couple weeks before, and then a day or two before we leave. Is this a good practice?
Thanks.

The hotels have become overwhelmed with requests these days. Your best bet is to have the request noted on your ressie. They will do their best to honor your first request, then so on. Try not to be too specific, ex. don't request a certain room number, instead ask for a location(also by what is most important to you). Ask for your building, then floor or view(if the building is what you deem most important).

I've gotten better success on room/building requests by calling to have them noted on my reservation ahead of time and mentioning it right away when I check in, first thing. I'm sure calling the hotel a day or two in advance wouldn't hurt but I'm not sure how much it will help.
Standing at the desk at ASMo, being told Im in the Love Bug building was odd to me. I mentioned that I'd requested Toy Story. CM commented, "I see that listed here. Let me see if I can do that." She checked for availability and then got permission to make the change. The computer makes the room assignments and there is no way for it to "check the notes field" on a reservation. It takes an individual.

This is the way I've handled it, too, and it's worked well.

When you "call the hotel" you are really getting a call center somewhere in the world. You are not really getting the front desk. Just have CRO note your requests on your reservation.
