Our waitlist for a studio at OKW just came thru. The burning question is what should I request for a room? We would like to be close to main pool and the quick service restaurant. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I just made a reservation at OKW this morning then called back for a request, I request near the Hospitality House but it was full so the guy at MS added "closest to HH as possible" as well as high floor ( I think they only go up to 3) for views.

Keep in mind, most buildings at OKW do not have elevators, so you might want to ask that at check-in when you're assigned your villa if that is important to you.

For the record, my favorite secion is Turtle Pond. I've stayed in buildings 30 and 31 and was happy there.

We always like to stay across the bridge from Buildings 23 to 29. It is just a short walk from the main pool and restaurant area, Turtle Krawl. If you use the buses there is a bus stop right there or you can even walk to the General Store and catch the bus there.

For anything near the main pool and Goods to Go, you have to be in the HH area. What did you get?

this to me is a very standard request. something that every
okw owner would want every time they go. [ why would others
want farther to walk &/or father away from the buses?] for
that reason, i would think dvc would try to go with owners'
requests first.

...it is something i think should be an owner perk.just like
us requesting @ our own resort, blt. just by it's design, going
higher will always be requested.

HUH? If you truly do believe this is "something every OKW owner would want every time they go", then how do you propose they fill everyone's request???? Do you expect everything that isn't in the HH category to be left empty?

First of all, it is NOT everyone's perfect place to stay. I much prefer South Point to HH category. I think once many have stayed in the 1 or 2 bedroom villas without that extra door to the bathroom for those in the living room, you would understand why.

As for the walk....I only walk if I want to. If I don't feel like walking (none of it is that far, and you are walking through beautiful grounds), then I just hop on the next available bus that comes by and I ride to HH. Frankly, I can usually get there easier by walking, and even from the farthest point, it isn't going to take me 10 minutes.

Near HH at OKW is NOT a request, it is a booking category assigned at time of booking...like boardwalk view at boardwalk, or theme park view at BLT. AT OKW specific buildings are included in that category.

However, you are incorrect that that every OKW owner wants that category every time they visit. Many, an fact I would say most, prefer the quieter areas of the resort. Remember that OKW is a large resort, with a main pool and 3 large quiet pools and 5 bus stops throughout the resort.

There was also a design change in one bedroom and larger units at OKW during construction, so many members prefer buildings 30 and higher because they have a 2nd entrance into the master bathroom through the laundry room. For bldgs 29 and lower, the entrance to the bathroom is through the master bedroom, limiting privacy somewhat.

I'll echo Chuck and Diane. We don't prefer the HH area when we stay at OKW. We prefer South Point or Turtle Pond.

In addition to what Diane, Chuck & Deb said, buildings 11-14 of the HH area tend to be more congested, less peaceful than other areas, and parking can be a problem there.

Then there are those who prefer millers road. I happen to like south point though. Again these are just personel preferences. You might be better off asking to be near a bus stop, out of the way, water view, near a quiet pool. Things like that. Try looking at a map of the resort. This might help in making a decision. Almost forgot The turle pond area also has a counter service but it is only open seasonaly.

Here's the map:

ok here is the real question that may determine some peoples room request. which bus stop is first and which is last on the pick up order

Peninsular Road, South Point, Turtle Pond, Millers Road, Hospitality House.

Except the Internal Bus stops at HH first and last.

So, building 62 appears to be close to the hospitality house, but is not in the designated "category". Since that is the case, and we want to be near the hospitality house, that appears to be a good choice for us. Am I wrong?

If it is available, it may be good for you. However, the 60's buildings are sometimes used for medical need buildings, as they are the only OKW building with elevators.

Great info on this thread. We are staying there for the first time this fall. Unfortunately, I'm wait-listed for a two bedroom but at least we have a one bedroom reserved. Didn't know about the door to the bathroom accessible through the master. Glad to know what building numbers don't have that "condition."

Does anyone know how far it is in time walking from the furthest building over to Olivia's?

The very farthest building (51) is just over 6/10 of a mile from Olivia's, or the equivalent of 1/2 way around World Showcase at EPCOT. You can also hop on any bus and get off near Olivia's. To return, you can walk across the bridge and hop on any bus back, but it is usually faster to walk it.

Well, if you choose to walk it will take you less than 10 minutes from the farthest building, but if you choose NOT to walk, you can just go to the nearest bus stop and hop on the very next bus that comes along. The buses will stop at HH last before leaving the resort. That being said, I would walk because it will take you less time.
