Room Paid - Can I Over Pay....

I know I've seen posts about over paying for your room so that you have spending money on your room account rather than putting a credit card down when you get there for spending money. I did the credit card thing last time I was there, but I'd be much more comfortable with over paying for my room with my Debit Card in advance since that way I won't be tempted to dip into the spending money we've saved prior to checking in.

I've asked my travel agent about this as she has been very helpful with everything and she advised me not to do this. She said she has done this for others before and that Disney doesn't approve of this method because it is as if they are acting like a bank holding your money until you get there. My agent has even said she has heard of people getting there and finding out they had been credited back the money for over paying prior to checking in. If that happened to me, that would be okay because I'd be using my Debit Card to put the extra money down and it would just go back on the card and I'd have it with me, however who knows how long the credit would take to show once they did it and I'd hate to run into any snags.

Has anyone successfully done this lately? If so, did you just call the resort and tell them you wanted to put extra money on your room account for when you check in? I'm wondering the best way to go about this. We are staying at CBR and our room is paid in full and we check in 3 weeks from today...Woo hoo!!:hyper:

Thanks,
Stacy

I tried to overpay when I went last time (June) and was told that they are no longer allowing overpayments.

Although I can see why they wouldn't want to be a "bank" I don't know why they wouldn't accept overpayments - they would be earning interest on your money instead of you. Sounds like a plan to me.

we overpaid on our last trip because we changed from Poly to POFQ which resulted in a credit. We wanted that credit to just remain in our account so we would have it on the room charge since Disney claims it takes anywhere from 10 bus days up to 8 weeks to get the money credited back to our CC.

So, we called them about this and every time we called, Disney said don't worry... it'll be on the account as a credit.

Lo and behold... we found out they only hold it for a certain amount of time and suddenly we would have lost it 2 days before we were to check-in to POFQ. So, we finally had to finagle everything around and check-in to the POFQ 2 days early in order to get our credit!

Moral and lesson from this: I wouldn't recommend overpaying your room. If you want to put cash on the room charge, then just overpay it at check-in time.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I think I'll just have to remind myself that the money is for FUN in Disney everytime I go to dip into it....I will just pay extra when i get there.

Just returned last week and had an overpayment on the room. It was because the rate dropped after we paid, however upon check in the front desk clerk said lots of their guests overpay and it is very common. Had to check in and out 3 times in total (because of codes, etc) and each time it was discussed as each ressie had an overpayment. All said it was very common. This was at POP.

What happens when you have an overpayment due to a room change? We were Conceirge and when Courtyard view became available we snagged it resulting in the difference between concierge and regular. I am getting nervous. We have a lot of credit on the reservation.

Maybe you could just take they amount you have set aside for spending money and either buy Disney Dollars from your local Disney Store, or maybe Traveller's Checks. That way, you'll still have everything covered ahead of time.
