Room only vs. package in regards to park ticket pricing increase

Hi all! I have a room only reservation for WDW because I was reading on various planning sites that a room only rate offers the least restrictions. However, I am now seeing websites warning that park tickets are about to go up. That being the case, should I convert my room only reservation to a package by adding park tickets, so I can lock in the cheaper rate?

I should mention, at this point we aren't entirely sure how many nights/days we are staying. Right now I have a reservation for 5 nights but I may need to drop it down to only 4. I realize that extra night/day in the park is relatively cheap, however we are also planning on spending 2 or 3 days at Universal, so I have to budget accordingly. My kids are huge Harry Potter fans and we have already been to WDW once before.

I just want to make sure I lock in the cheaper ticket prices at WDW (I know I'm too late to do that at Universal for this year), but I also want to have flexibility on our dates. I want to be able to drop a night/park ticket if it turns out our budget won't allow for that extra day at WDW. Is booking a package with room/park tickets for the max amount of nights/days we will possibly be staying the best way for me to go?

Thanks!

It used to be that adding or dropping a day or two from a reserevation was not a problem. Within the past year or so, Disney has made people re-book their reservation when making changes. That means that if you had a discount, you could lose it because they don't have any "blocks" of dates left under the discount. Or if ticket prices went up, you will pay the new ticket price on your new package.

The only way to protect yourself from a ticket price increase is to buy the tickets outright and pay for them right now, or make a package reservation that you have no intention of changing.

Bummer. Thanks for clearing that up.

Jewel you are not too late for Universal tickets. Undercover Tourist still has them at last years price. Better yet if you join Touring Plans ($12 yr) they have a special link to Official Ticket Center that has Uni tix even cheaper than UT. Good luck

Jewel this is how I got my Universal tickets:
I have the touring plans app (if u dont have it, it's free, get it)
From home page of TP app, i scrolled down to "ticket calculator" .
Put in the number of people, adults and kids, then put in any amount of days more than 2 (less than 3 days calculator links you to disney website) . [This calculator is for Disney tickets but continue this way as if getting dis tickets in order to get the Uni tickets on discount] so put in that you want to visit disney parks 3 days. Then hit calculate button. You will get multiple choices where to get your "Disney" Tickets. One option will say $(whatever price), Official Ticket Center, click special link. Click that special link. That will take you to OTC ticket page which has ALL the reduced price tickets for Disney AND Universal at special prices for Tour Plan members! Scroll down till you find your desired universal tickets and proceed w purchase! All tickets include tax and free shipping. Note: picking up at their Will Call Center in florida is the default at checkout so make SURE you change that to home shipping. I saved $58 on 4 universal tickets over Undercover Tourist and thats a discount on top the new price change. Good luck let me know how it goes or if u need more help. ; )
