Room only to Package Question

Since I recently learned that when I switch my room only reservation to a package, the deposit for the room only is not automatically applied to the new reservation I have started wondering. Can I book my package online, and then call disney up and cancel the room only reservation? Would it cause any trouble to do it that way, rather than calling disney to change the room only to a package for me?

Two options:

1. You can book the new package online, pay your $200.00 deposit and then call CRO to have your deposit on your room-only transferred to the new reservation.

2. You can cancel the room-only and have them credit the funds back to your debit/credit card. Then you can apply those funds to the new reservation.

Since you have to make a phone call to cancel your original reservation anyway, why not simplify things and have the phone CM make your new package reservation at the same time?

they will NOT transfer deposit or credit to new ressie. I know some say they have called and gotten it transferred but we never been that lucky.

Also it takes awhile for the credit to show up on your card. took 2 billing cycles for us.....

But if you want a PKG there is no other way to do it........

2 totally different res systems....

Yes, you can book a package online and pay the $200 deposit and then call and cancel the room only reservation without any problem. The deposit on the room only ressie will be refunded as money paid toward that cannot be applied to a package (same goes for package to room only) as they are two separate reservation systems.

Since I've done this numerous times, the last time being 3 weeks ago, they DO transfer deposits to another reservation. They can only be done on business days when the business office is open, but it can and will be done. If you get a CM that doesn't want to do it, that doesn't mean that it's a policy stating they never will-it's just a CM that may not be aware of the policy.

When I pay with a debit card, I get my credit back within 2 to 4 business days. I've never paid with a credit card so I can't comment about refund time-frames on those.

It has been my (very recent) experience that they can transfer $ from one reservation to another - IF it is the same type of reservation (room only - room only or package - package) They cannot transfer room only funds to a package reservation.

This! I just had money transferred from room only to room only. We orig had 12 nights pool view room only booked, then I decided to split it up and do 6 nights Pool view, 6 nights CL both room only. I was paid in full for the 12 nights pool view. So they transferred the difference over to my CL room only.

Since you have to phone anyway, to cancel your room only, I'd do the whole thing by phone. I don't see the advantage of booking on line, then having to phone anyway. :confused3

I like to book online because I love getting to type all the info in myself to be sure its all correct. Rather then relying on them to understand me over the phone and then having to call later and get my name corrected or people's ages corrected and other odds and ends.

Im not quite a control freak, but im close.

I will try and get the money transferred over, but will not be surprised if they cant/wont.

You'd have a better chance of having it transferred if you booked the pkg on the phone during your phone call to cancel the room only. Good luck, I hope they can.
