Room only ressie or dropping first night of UPH ?

I am in the midst of planning a Sept/Oct 2004 Disney vacation and am trying to cut a few corners to make things more affordable.
What we want to do is book a silver plan package at WL for 6 nights.
In order to save some money ,I've come up with an idea to either drop the UPH passes from our first night, or if that can't be done, maybe book a room only ressie for our first night and the entire package plan for the rest of our stay.

My questions are, CAN I drop the UPH tickets for the first night? Do I mention this when I make my reservation?
Will Disney allow me to have two reservations if I book the room only and then the package?

This absolutely can be done. All you have to do is make a room only ressie for the first night of your stay and then make the package ressie. You can mention this when you call and should so this way they know what you are planning. If you have any problems just say Thank you anyway and call back. Disney just hire tons of new people and with the new system as well things are a little crazy there however I know for a fact that this can be done.

Yes, you can do that but when I enquired about it, they said that they could not guarantee that the room you get for the first night will be the room you get for the rest of your stay. You may have to move. If that doesn't bother you that go for it. From what I've read, lots of people do it.

Changing rooms wouldn't really be that bad I suppose.I had toyed with the idea of booking our first night at one of the value resorts and then moving to WL. But changing rooms within the same resort is alot different then changing entire resorts so I am still pondering that thought.

But, I would like to see Pop Century.............
