As the pp said, the balance isn't due until check in, but you can make payments and/or pay in full prior to arrival if you want.

Yes, it's due at check in, but I always like to make monthly payments and get it paid off well before arrival. We've paid off our August room only a month ago. Gives me time to save up for spending $

Technically at check in. Though there have been reports that if you do on line check in Disney MAY charge the credit card number you give them before you arrive at the resort.

Yup. I've been charged the night before/and morning before I was anywhere near Disney. Not usually an issue but one trip DH and I were splitting the cost because he was working in Orlando while I was at parks so I was paying for weekend and him weeknights. They backed it out and rebilled at front desk but I know that could also be aggravating for those planning to show up and pay cash or with gift cards.
