Room Only question

Couple questions regarding booking room only reservations.
1. If I book room only and a discount comes out later, will it apply to my reservations?

2. With room only, will we still get magic bands?

I've never booked directly through Disney so the questions may seem stupid to the more seasoned planners.

1. Maybe, maybe not. It depends on if there is available inventory for that discount for the room type you have booked, on your dates. This is not always the case.

And you would not get the discount automatically. You (or your TA) would have to contact Disney and have your reservation changed to one that includes the discount.

1. No one with any kind of ressie can "apply" a discount to a room. What's really happening is that you are changing your resort reservation from a rack rate room to a discounted room. You can only change if a discounted room is available, and the more people who book that room type at rack rate, the fewer discounted rooms of that type will be available.

Everyone has the exact same chance of booking that discounted room type once the discount comes out, whether they had no reservation at all, had a room-only booked, or had a package booked. Having a rack rate version of the room booked in advance gives you no advantage at all- that's a common misconception, and an annoying one, as it cuts down on discountable inventory.

2. Yes, you will get Magic Bands, 60 day FP+, all the Disney resort guest privileges.

I love booking room-only because it allows such flexibility. We made resort changes beneficial to us 2 weeks prior to the trip with no penalty, can cancel if we need to with no penalty, & don't have to be paid in full way in advance. It's great.

Is anyone still planning on booking through Orbitz for room only? I used to love going through them for the extra discount, but with the new $25 penalty, I'm hesitant - that's close to 25% of the room cost. I wouldn't cancel, but definitely may need to switch nights and you still get hit with the fee.
