Hello, I just called to make a reservation and the reservationist said I hade a 'code' linked to my name/email and gave me a pretty good room only rate (way better than what I could find online) In fact I couldnt' find it available online at all. When I attempted to add in the magic your way passes she said, oh that will be a package and then told me it was $1200 MORE!! So I booked room only. What is the deal with the package anyway? Is it just room and park tickets or what. I said 6 day with park hopping which is all I wanted anyway. I booked the room only and figured I'd just buy the tickets separately, is that comparable or am I missing something! :wizard:

I have found that it is cheaper to do it room only also. The problem I have with the MYW plan is that they don't offer any codes and you seem to paying full price for the rooms. When I tried booking through CRO they didn't have the room I wanted at the Poly available and it was going for the full rack rate anyway! :confused3 I checked with Expedia and even called them to make sure and was able to book a GV room at a good price. All the rooms that were available through the CRO for the Poly were CLV or CGV and were going for over $500 bucks a night! The only drawback to doing it this way is I can't get the meal plan with my tickets. I was told by a Disney operator that I have to book a package through Disney to take advantage of the meal plan. :guilty: But I saved a lot of money so I guess it will work out in the end! :Pinkbounc

I recently booked three rooms for our "Grand Gathering" with an email/postcard code. The room only discount was substantial - WL Std. for about $124ish. When I priced out the tickets and then the dining option, they were all just added on to the discounted room price. It didn't matter either way if I bought the tickets then or not. CBR was $74 per night with the same thing with the package - whatever the list price is for the tickets, it was just added on.

I wondered why when I booked adding the MYW plan added $1200 for a 5 night stay..I figure that I lost the discount doing that. As for missing out on the meal plan, on these boards I read some really distressing things about the meal plan-places not knowing whats going on, long waits etc. I also think those plans are designed to get you to eat more than you need to! I hardly go out and order 3 courses every dinner, if I had the meal plan I would want to get my money's worth, but is it worth it if I gain 10 pounds in 5 days!

Meal plan is a whole nother discussion !! I am like you, pondering the meal plan. We will be there in the summer and not very interested in eating at all the wonderful restaurants because of our girls. They eat like birds and are really there for the parks. Eating for us is a necessity not recreation. Financially, for a family of 4, we would end up spending over $100 each and every day for the meal plan. Last summer, we didn't come anywhere near that much paying as we went. Yet, my in-laws are joining us this year and are very much interested in enjoying the different offerings, so they are getting the dining option on their package and we will meet them later. So, I guess it depends on how significant eating in the restaurants are and if everyone in your party will get their money's worth. Good luck deciding !!

I was able to add tickets and MYW dining to my code. It saved me almost $500. So, it can be done, but I had to call back twice to get a CM who knew how to apply my code to a package. We are happy with it b/c we wanted to try the dining. Good luck!! :earsgirl:

I wondered if I just had a CM that didn't know how to apply it properly. I had also inquired about whether the AP discount would be greater (I am thinking of purchasing an Annual Pass and bringing my daughter back next year as well!) but it would have to work financially...but the CM wasn't too helpful there either. She did say if I wanted to change to a package I would have to cancel my room only and rebook..etc etc....it seemed confusing. I'd love to read more about the dining plan, I am still not sure its for us! We don't eat like birds but we are staying on the concierge level and there will be food there so I think its a good decision for us to skip it this time. :flower:

It's true that you can't add dining to an AAA room only reservation through Disney, but you can get a package with dining and a discount on the room if you go through AAA.

Call your local AAA and talk to one of the agents there. When they break down the package price it should be the discounted room rate + the tickets (same as disney) + the dining (same for everyone).

So I guess if you have AAA, its better to go thru them. Thanks for you info.
