hi, now that the room only discount has been announced we are thinking about moving from pofq to the wilderness lodge, but if we book room only now and decide later that we would like to add tickets and dining would we loose the room only discount, thanks for any advice susie

You can add tickets and dining and keep the discount on the room portion :). However, you wouldn't be "adding" tickets and dining per say as you would technically be making a new reservation as a package. Since money cannot be transferred between room only ressies and packages, the room only ressie would be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit (unless you make this change less than 45 days prior to arrival, in which case it would have to be paid in full at the time of booking). If you do decide to change to a package, keep in mind that dining must be added at least 3 days prior to arrival ;).

You're welcome :goodvibes. If you're told it can't be done, either call back and speak to a different CM or ask to speak with Guest Services. If the discount booking window is still open, a regular reservation CM should be able to make the change without any problem, but if the discount has expired, guest services may have to make the change so you don't lose the discount :).

That is what I am running into. I booked a package with a 40% off a deluxe pin. Today I just wanted to add dining (and pay for dining- not trying to stack discounts) but the CM said that because my window was closed for the pin, I couldn't add the dining. How do I get them to do it when they say they can't??:confused3

If you already have a package booked (room + tickets), it is easy to add dining......there's no reason that I can see that you're being told it can't be done . I would call back and see if you get someone different. If the CM says it's not possible, ask to speak with someone in Guest Services. It's tricky when room only is booked with a discount and you want to change to a package as guest services usually has to do this in order to keep the discount. But to already have a package, adding dining should not be a problem at all, as long as you're at least 3 days before arrival. Some CMs are not the best source of information and sometimes give incorrect information. I would keep calling as there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to add dining. Good luck :wizard:.

Op. If you have a room only res with a discount you need to makeit a package to add dining. But if there is no availability on a package with a discount room rate available, you won't be able to get it. Even worse, you could actually loose your original discounted reservation as well.

thanks, if i add a day ticket to the room only reservation does it make it a package making it easier to add dining later, thanks again susie

I actually had a similar question. Should I book a room-only right now to hold the space in the resort that I want, and then if a (free dining or room discount) promo comes up, change it to a package by adding the tickets and dining? I'm assuming that if I have the room-only reservation, they can re-book it under a package, essentially giving me the same room I had before, right?

No, you can't. The CM won't actually cancel one until the other is booked.

There's been many cases when the cm cancelled the room only res first and then could not secure the room discount under the package and guest was sol.

Typically done in order to transfer any deposits to the new res instead of placing a new one and waiting for the original deposit to be refunded.

At least reported many times here...

Promos are issued when a resort has low expected occupancy. Having a reservation just with the hopes of getting a promo is useless.

Only make it if you would be willing to take it at full value based on the dates and room type you want, as if you wait, you might not even get one later on, even at rack rate.

Not necessarily. There are only a certain number of rooms of each type for any given promotion. I've often had to change rooms/views/upgrades to take advantage of a promotion (package or room-only) or even change resorts.

Ditto for me; POR doesn't always have discounts because they are the most affordable for a moderate and don't often need to give discounts.

I have only been able to get a discount once at POR; the other two times I either had to move to another resort or opt out of the discount. Once I did upgrade to SSR, the other time I decided to stay where I was.
