room only clarification

just a small question regarding room only bookings on the US website

I've seen many times accounts that you could upgrade those bookings or modify them to benefit from a newly released deal

how does that work exactly, and are there limitations.

If I book a room only on the US website, am I able to upgrade to a package (free dining for example) or to have the price recalculated if there are room only discounts released after my booking, or do I need to cancel and rebook ?

We book room only through Disney US several times. I usually use a US agent (We used Dreams Unlimited and were very impressed) to make my life easier as you have to ring to get the reservation amended.

Also if you book by phone or through an agent the deposit it the cost of the first night and is fully refundable until 6 days out. Balance isn't due until check in.

Packages and reservations made online are balance due 45 days out at which point there are cancellation charges too.

When a deal is released if you booked yourself you would need to call Disney US and see if there are rooms under the deal available and then they will switch it. Sometimes not all resorts/room types are included in all offers.

I was under the impression that when you book online you only pay for 1 night and the balance is due upon check in, but your statement about the 45 days deadline has me confused.

ive booked room only online plenty of times and cancellation policy is always 5 days out. deposit is one night and balance payable on arrival.
the packages (ie: tickets or dining plan) have a longer cancellation policy, but room only is 5 days out

You must pay one night’s room rate as a deposit within 7 days of reserving your room. (Except when booking online at DisneyWorld.com, in which case the deposit is required at time of booking.)

Final payment of the remainder is due at check-in. (Except when booking online at DisneyWorld.com, in which case full payment is required if reserving within 45 days of arrival.)

You can change or cancel your reservation without penalty up until 5 days prior to check-in. (6 days for online bookings.)
