Hi everyone! Not sure we’re to ask this, please remove if in wrong place.
I have a room only reservation for 5/22 and called Disney to change to package. I was told I needed to cancel my reservation, refund my deposit and rebook. Or just add tickets to my reservation online.
If I add tickets myself online, will it be a package? Will I receive the free golf and discounts that way?
Thank you for any help in advance!

If you add tickets to the room only reservation, that should turn it into a package. I'm really surprised they couldn't do that over the phone for you.

I'm not at all sure that separately purchased tickets and room constitute a package, with package benefits. I'm pretty sure the advice is that if you don't want to be bound by package rules, you should buy your tickets and room separately. That advice makes no sense if buying them separately turns it into a package anyway. I think the cast member should have been able to convert your room only to a package over the phone. Even if you have to cancel the room only to book the package, the cast member should be able to do both on the same phone call (unless your resort is otherwise sold out perhaps). Hopefully, someone with more expertise will give you a definitive answer. But I'd be hesitant to just add tickets and assume that gives you a package.

At least historically, a package was actually a separate product, often under the label “Walt Disney Travel Company.”

Packages have different cancellation policies.

I believe, at least at one point, rooms came from a different inventory pot.

Mechanically, there may not be a way to simply convert between the two, similar to situations where one must cancel one reservation and receive the applicable refund rather than transfer funds between reservations.

We do room only ressies and add tickets later. This absolutely does NOT make the two items a package. You will NOT get the package discounts or freebies.
