Room only cancellation policy changes?

I've been off these boards for a while (since my last vacation 2/05)...
When I called to make my room only reservation, the cancellation policy is now 6 days before to avoid the one night cancellation fee. On our last trip it was 2 days before, when did this change? Or did I call the wrong reservation number? Just curious?

I called 407-934-7639

Gee, it was always 5 days before for me, and my last trip was this past May.

I have always gotten 5 days... wonder why they went to 6. (and how you got two, I have never gotten two!)

It hasn't, it's still 5. A couple of years ago, it used to be 3 days. :)

It changed from 2 to 5 about 5 years ago. As far as the 5 or 6. I think they say 6 because on the 5th day prior to arrival, if you cancel you will loose the deposit.

It is still 5. As the reader above wrote 5 days before arrival would be 6 depending on how you interpret. I just received a confirmation yesterday in the mail. It is 5 days.

Maybe there was confusion on how one counts the 5 day prior rule.
"do you count the arrival day?"

Under these new terms regardless of how you count, Disney is covered and arguments can be managed by making some exceptions down to the original 5 day rule.

Cancellation Policy

In order to receive a full refund of your deposit, notification of cancellation must be received at least 6 days prior to your arrival date. To cancel or modify an existing reservation, call (407) 939-7429†. The cancellation and refund policy is subject to change.

The info we have is 5 days and that is what we are telling the guests. We have received no notification from Disney that the cancellation policies have changed, or are going to, and I was at work yesterday (Friday). That said, they *might* be changing the policy and implemented it on the website first and will give the rest of us notification about it later. And before any one asks, I have no idea why it would be one thing on the website and something else for the guests calling in.

Yes, I thought it was odd, because I had always been told the 5 days--however, I recently booked by phone, but received an email reminder to pay my deposit and it referred to and included the link which I provided upthread that clearly says 6 days.

I just wanted to clarify that so noone thinks this is a difference of whether or not you book online or by phone which determines it. Obviously not. (although I know that has been the case in the past)

I booked by phone on June 22 for a trip in late Nov./early Dec. and the room only cancellation policy the CM gave me was the usual 5 days prior to arrival.

I've not received a written confirmation by mail but my ressie info is up at the official site. I just checked and the terms & conditions link only provides cancellation info for packages, no mention of room only that I can find. If the policy has changed, is Disney obligated to notify you or is it up to me to somehow find out? I hope I won't need to cancel for any reason but I do like to know what the current policy is.

I called into today to cancel my trip starting Juy 14th. I was told that I would not have to pay the one night's fee.
Had to cancel due to illness, not hurricane. Hope to be able to get to WDW in Oct.

I made a reservation for room only WL in Feb 2006 yesterday (7/9) and was told cancellation was now 6 days out.

I am on the phone with Reservations Guest Relations right now. They tell me that it is 5 days for US addresses.

For international, it is 'deposit due 14 days after time of booking'. I asked for Guest Relations because I often have agents who refuse to end an international reservation, insisting that a deposit is due at time of booking the arrival date is less than 30 days away.

The manager I just spoke with was extremely pleasant and understanding, and heard my frustration (I actually had an agent today who seemd to want to fight and prove that I was wrong - my reservation booked today to arrive end of July doesn't actually require a deposit until day of arrival)

WDW can set whatever deposit policy they wish, but once again there is a need to have the information available to their staff so that they can convey it in a consistent manner.

I just checked and the terms & conditions link only provides cancellation info for packages, no mention of room only that I can find.
The Terms and Conditions link will show you Room Only terms and conditions, but only if you have selected Room Only reservations when you start the booking process. You select that on the top of the first page when you begin entering your dates, selecting a resort, etc during the online booking process. If you select Room Only, when you get an offer or match, then on the bottom left of that page you click on "Terms and Conditions" and you will get the link I provided upthread--Room Only or "CRO" terms--which clearly state 6 days.
