I have a *sky high* room only reservation for next march that I booked via telephone. IF historical discounts are the same in 2016 around Easter, I believe a room only discount will be best for us. I do want to add tickets at some point (thus making it a package essentially). Is there any reason I should do this on the 22nd? Or is there no rush, as I know the phone lines will probably be jammed. Just hard to predict what discounts will be...but I didn't know if it was "safer" to have a package already booked or room only booked, in order to apply a room only discount, if that makes sense? Thanks!!!

Your room only reservation would be cancelled and rebooked as a package. If there is a discount on the room available at the time you rebook, you can apply that discount to your new package. You will not be able to apply any funds you have already paid on the room only reservation to the package; they will be refunded and you will pay a new deposit on the package.

If a discount is released later, you can call and have it applied to your package, assuming the discount is applicable for the dates, resort and room category you booked. If not, you can change them so they fit the promotion if you wish, without any penalty if you are more than 45 days from check-in.

Any benefit to changing it to a package now though? Or should I just wait until fall when discounts are released?

Only if you have prefer to have something very specific (resort or room category) that you think you will not be able to get if you wait to book it.

I already have a standard room view booked. So doesn't that guarantee me that room if I change to a package later on as opposed to next week (not talking about discounts here). Thanks!

Not necessarily. Depending on when you want to travel and what room availability is like, when you cancel the room-only booking and switch to a package you do run the risk of your Standard View room being scooped up by someone else in-between the cancel and re-book. If you are trying to apply a discount, this is more likely to happen or the Standard View room may not be available with the discount.

So should I go ahead and switch to a package next week if I know i'll be adding on tickets eventually?? I don't know what to do :(

When I booked the Room Only, the CM assured me if when switching to a package, the standard views were sold out, there was a way they could use "my actual room" to do the new package booking.

If you are going to add tickets anyway, I'd change to a package now. If a room discount comes out, you can call and have it applied to your existing reservation as long as what you have booked is available under the discount. The discount will be on the room portion only, but can be applied to a package (pending availability) :).

In the situation that the room type you have booked is no longer available, guest services should be able to make the change. CRO doesn't usually have the authority to change from RO to a package if the resort/room type is no longer available, but guest services can do it. I have done it a couple of times without any problems ;).

Disney Travel Company and Disney reservations are two separate entities in the same company. What that means is that if you go from room only to package or vise versa then they have to cancel your original reservation, send you a refund, rebook, and collect a downpayment at time of booking. Your room will be held during the re-booking ,but the whole refund thing is a hassle. I presently have a September package booked and we are moving it to January for reasons. I was going to change my Sept trip to a January room only about 3 weeks ago to hold the room and then change it back to the package once the 2016 rates came out. The rep told me to hold off on doing that so I didn't get a $3400 refund just to book a room only that I was going to have to change to a package 3 weeks later and go through the refund again when they converted the room only backto a package.

What is the advantage to changing it over to a package? Personally, I would just keep the room only and just buy park tickets and attach them to each person in MDE. No dealing with refunds and new deposits sounds good to me LOL!

Bree, That's what I'm going to do! But, I was told by adding tickets will automatically change to a package. So I guess I need to buy tix elsewhere like from UT??? My room only rate that I booked via telephone is better than the rates released today! So, the CM I just talked to said if I keep my room only, I will keep the rate quoted to me. However, if I switch to a package my rate will be adjusted upwards to the new rate.
Mickeynut, thanks, that's good to know just in case in the Fall there is only some sort of "package" deal and I might have to change to a package at that point...
