Room Location Roulette

Many people have favorite buildings or room locations at the DVC resorts, but I was wondering how many out there enjoy the excitement of not knowing where their room will be?

I actually look forward to this aspect of the trip: we request smoking rooms for mom, but other than that I find fun anticipation in imagining which building at OKW we will get. Last trip we got the ideal building (#25) but won't be requesting it on our Nov. trip so that we can experience a new location.

Am I the weird one here (don't answer that!!!) or are there others out there whose pulse race when you drive or walk up to the unknown room after receiving your assignment?

Yes! Yes! I'm with you. I love the adventure of discovering our room and view each time. I feel like I learn something new about WDW with each new room. It's one of the best parts of the vacation, IMO. The real excitement begins when the CM says our room number and then pulls out the map to give us directions. Too much fun!!

Thanks for posting this. I've commented on other threads that the only room request we ever make is non-smoking, but you captured just why we like it that way!!

We have made general location requests (near elevators, etc) but not very specific ones.

The way we see it, and using your roulette analogy....we can either win a little or win a lot....either way we're going to win.

Well, my opinion may not count because we haven't been "home" yet. But, I agree with you.

I want to limit my expectations to the most basic ones - pleasant and competent service + top notch room quality.

I'm afraid that if I get my heart set on this view or that floor then don't get what I want, I'm only setting myself up for disappointment.

And that's no way to start my one and only vacation of the year.

Oh, you just gave me an idea for a new toy :)

I'll be sure to give you credit when it's ready

I generally don't request a specific room or area either, and I have always done pretty well!

We haven't gone home yet either, that will be in Dec. I think we'll be so happy to be at VWL that we won't notice a view of the dumpster.;)

The only time I request something is when I have a standard view at BWV. Then I always request a room as far away from the elevators as possible. These rooms require walking the longest distance from the elevators but they also have really nice views and are very secluded and quiet.
Other than that, I let the chips fall where they may. I have gotten rooms that I loved and ones that were not the greatest but I was still in WDW, so I was happy!:Pinkbounc
