Room Key Question if staying at WDW

We have a seven night cruise booked on the Magic for November 2004 (Yipee!).

We will be adding 2 - 3 nights at WL right before the cruise. Is there any way to link the nights with the cruise so that our one key is good for the whole time or do we have to check in separate?

It's not too big a deal either way, but we were just curious.

My understanding is that if you book the resort stay through the cruise line, they can set it up so that you check in only once and your key will work both at the resort and on the ship. However, I think that you can usually get a better deal if you book the two legs of the trip separately.
