Room key checks for Magic mornings

One morning during Early Entry at EPCOT CMs were checking room
keys to make sure all who entered were resort guests. It was amazing to see how people were refused entry into the park and left standing at the gate. They was several hundred people. If they did this at Magic Kingdom I wonder how many people would be standing outside the gates waiting for that extra hour.princess:

We were "carded" at the AK. The CM announced loudly to have your resort id out and ready to be checked. All others were sent to the right to be held behind the rope. Yes, they DO check.

I really wish they would check the id's at all parks all of the time. I have been there I don't even know how many times, and have NEVER been asked to prove I was a resort guest. I know that Disney doesn't want to upset or anger their guests, but what is the point of having an early entry day for those of us who choose to stay on property when anyone can just walk in? This is something they need to inforce or they can no longer call it a perk for staying on property! Just my thoughts.

During my trip in May, they "carded" people at Epcot. That's the only one my DW and I did EMH at -- all other mornings we did the anti-EMH thing.

We've noticed them "carding" people over the past six months or so. I think it's a WONDERFUL idea! They wanted room ID from everyone in our group from adults to the four year old. (They didn't ask for the baby of course)

When we checked in they issued keys for everyone, and we were told to make sure we took them for everyone if we went to the pool or did EMH.

I *think* they don't card at MK because only the resort transportation works that early. The trains & boat from the TTC only begin 1/2 hour before opening.

'Course I could be wrong! ;)

My last two trips, March and May we have been required to show Resort ID for EMH...I also believe there are some big changes coming...for access to the Parks and Resort pools.

Asked at MK , AK & EPCOT...we didn't make the EMH @ MGM.

This month we did two EMH's... we weren't carded at either. The first was at Epcot, but we did enter at the International Gateway so I could see why it'd probably be safe to assume that we were resort guests. The second time was at MK and I didn't see them card anyone. We've never been carded at MK at the start of EMH. I sense that they tend not to do card checks when there's a mass of people at the turnstiles at EMH opening so they can relieve the crowd pressure faster.

I think the reason they don't card at the MK is because only the resort buses and the Resort monorail is taking guests to the MK. I was told they hold non resort guests at the ticket and tranportation centre. That was a few years ago so maybe they still do.

We went to EMH at MK, AK and the Studios (MGM) in mid-April. We were "carded" only at MGM. We had a guest join us for part of our trip. Thankfully I had remembered to get a room key and ticket at Guest Services at POR for our "extra kid" that morning. He would have been stuck out on the curb by himself!

I'm so surprised to read how many of you have been "carded"! We almost always do EMH on our trips and have NEVER had this happen. But, personally, I'm glad they do it and I CAN'T WAIT for something to be done about the pool situation...Any details, MAGICinMYHEART???

Only that they are asking more and more for proof that guest are staying on property...In the 30+ years I have been going to WDW and staying on property, is past year we have been requested to show Resort ID's more then the previous years in total.

Oh, and it wasn't just our group everyone was requested to have Resort ID out as we approached the entrance.

When we were up..people were being carded..thank goodness, it is about time!

We also were "carded" at AK and Epcot in May. I think it's a great idea. I never realized that there were so many people out there trying to beat the system.

I thought we were "carded" at all the resorts last Nov/Dec when we went... perhaps they were being more careful about this since it was around Thanksgiving and the parks were busier?

Based on information shared by friends that work for Disney, I do believe you are correct and in my opinion, it's about time.

I know you can not access the observation deck now at the Contemporary near California Grill unless you are dining there. Guests that have a PS are escorted up to the Grill by private elevator.

What if your a resort guest BUT prefer to drive to the park? We are staying at monorail resorts so I won't obviously drive to Mk but I like to to AK, mgm & epcot. Can you do this for EE?

Thanks, MKY princess:

That shouldn't pose any problem as long as you bring your room key. The parks allow parking early.

They didn't card anyone at the MK during our visit to EMH and that was last month. I even asked the CM and was told that they trusted me! Hello?? I don't want to be trusted. I want to know that there isn't anyone getting in that isn't supposed to. EMH was so crowded that morning that I will never waste my time again doing it. Within 15 minutes there were lines 30-45 minutes long. There were way more people then should have been. I quoted your post because I thought the same but there is still a problem. There are numerous folks that stay offsite but come onsite to eat breakfast at the resorts and also plenty of folks too cheap to pay for parking and parking in the resort lots. These people hop the monorail at the resorts and go right into the MK for EMH. No one is carded when boarding the resort monorails. No one. Just on my morning there were two families in our monorail car staying offsite and going to EMH. We were just there in May and that is how it was so I don't think anything has changed.
