What a nice idea.

Following to get some ideas. Our next cruise we will be in a repeat room and wondering if we will have the same room host.

Years ago on the Magic we had a great room host on our first cruise. 3 years later when we took another cruise we had him again... and he remembered us.

What a Wonder-ful idea. Since they live on the ship in small quarters, continue with your ideas: cookies, snacks, international phone card, pair of funny UK socks, small assortment of tea bags (many of the hosts come from former British colonies).

So before this thread devolves the way they normally do, how about we all note that better tip and comment/compliments have now been mentioned. There is no need to belabor that point anymore. If folks want to suggest other things, great. OP has heard from the money and praise crowd so I don't see any purpose in the 100's of future posts on those.

I don't know. Multiple posts confirming the same thing are often helpful in recognizing a consensus. I do think additional tip and comment cards would be most appreciated by your host. As someone who used to work in the service industry, I can tell you that pretty much any items I received as a "tip" went straight into the trash; I don't eat candy, and even gift cards I often re-gifted as they were for things I just don't use (e.g., Starbucks).

I disagree, mostly because the posts cause the thread to devolve into bickering. OP has been told they are options. OP has also said that is their plan. They are looking for other extras to do.

I once read here that a tin of small mints like mini Altoids are appreciated as they can put a few in their pocket and pop one in their mouth now and again to freshen up.

I have more ideas for females than for males. For a famale I would suggest a quality fragrance free lotion, cuticle oil pen or nice flameless candle.

I will be asking my room host if there is anything he/she needs from shore during a port visit. I know they don't get a lot of time IF any at all. I'd be happy to pick them up shampoo or toothpaste or a certain chocolate bar or favorite (boxed) food. I have the same trouble now at Christmas with gifts - everybody buys what they want and the fun stuff is fun on the day but ends up donated in January. So I try to go for food or favorite beauty items that will be USED up and not just take up space. If anything I will bring a GooGoo Cluster or some Moon Pies from Nashville. A small edible token that could be left in a common area knowing there is probably at least one crew member with a sweet tooth!

This is left field but the room host on the Carnival who made the towel animals told me he had to BUY his own stick on eyes, there were required. Do DCL towel animals have eyes now?

When in doubt, cash is king!

I wouldn't worry about international phone cards anymore. So many places have wifi available, that a skype or whatsapp message is more useful.
You could also provide a postcard from where you live as well. Remember that things that are consumable or small are best since they often share small living spaces. They just don't really have room for 'stuff'.

I have put a PS on the original but happy to delete this thread

Please don't. I've had two lovely stateroom hosts and would love ideas on how to give them something extra. Last time I took cute pencils (Smencils) and give a few to each person we ran into that was good to us to take home to their kids. Small enough to save for when they got home but just a little extra thank you.

At the 'risk' of being berated by DynamicDisneyDuo, may I point out that you should keep in mind WHY money is the BEST gift for cruise staff. Most of them are saving / sending money home to their families or saving for their future (house, education, etc.) when no longer on board.

In addition, they have many expenses on board including soft drinks, bottled water, snacks, alcoholic beverages, personal laundry service, internet service, toiletries, etc. That's why you see crew members heading to Target or Walmart when in port.

Crew members have told us that the little gifts given by passengers make the passengers feel kind and generous (and the crew members are ALWAYS gracious!) but are basically just things they trash.
