Has anyone else ever paid extra on their room only reservation so they would have a credit that they could use for meals, etc, as opposed to using a charge card (hate them)? I was told you could do this, now as my trip approaches, I called CRO to put some money on my reservation (already paid off plus) and the CM said you can't do that. I am pretty sure he was an uneducated CM, but wanted to be sure. Thanks!

I called the other day to do the same thing and was told I could not do that and if I sent extra money they would not accept it and send it back.

See, but I have had CM take money on a reservation when it was already paid in full, it was just this last guy that gave me a hard time.

Time to convert that cash into Disney Dollars!! For your trip!!

Why do so many people "HATE" Credit Cards? They are a wonderful way to carry "cash" without the risk. They are a great source for protection of lost, stolen, or broken items within the first 30 days of purchase. (American Express offers this.) They also have the added benefit of protection from fraud.. you can charge back if something is not received.... etc...

I just treat my credit cards like cash. PAY THE BILL every month in full! It takes a little more tracking to ensure you are not just "charging away" with no cash to cover it at the end of the month. But it can be done!

Now me, I HATE Debit Cards! LOL! (*The illusion of a credit card, with absolutely NO PROTECTION from your checking account. Also you don't get a 30 day interest free loan, like your credit card gives you!)

I agree with you on this, Disbug, but keep in mind that not everyone is on the same page as us.

For some people, credit is not an option. They may not be able to obtain a credit card due to some bad financial decisions in the past. Or, they may be reluctant to get one because of a history of bad experience with credit.

It's very easy to rack up debt when you use plastic. Keeping track of the spending is difficult and whipping that card out to make an impulse purchase is so easy. How many times have you gotten your statement and said, "Oh, I forgot about that charge" or "That showed up on this bill? I wasn't expecting it until the next one!".

I really respect anyone who recognizes their inability to handle credit in the responsible way that you do, and takes the steps necessary to prevent any credit problems.

i also called to check on this because i have had so many people say yes you can apply more to your room for a credit when you get there and was told that you can not do that the computer will automatically send out a refund check... So I have not tried it because of that :(

I have saved up cash to spend on our trip. However I decided to leave it home and charge the stuff on my Disney Visa. I can pay it off when I get home with the money I have saved up and also earn some reward dollars for my next trip.

We always pay extra & have never had a problem other than the CMs surprise when we check in with a credit on the room! We normally send enough to cover our PS meals. It does help that I normaly pay before the discounts are available.

As for "hating" credit cards, we use them all year, but its nice to not have to come home to a big bill!

Why not just wait until you check in and apply the cash for credit at that time? Will that not work?

What has worked best for us is setting up a vacation account with my bank. I get a debit card (with Visa logo) and then the money comes right out of the vacation account. Since it is a separate account, we just put money in during the year and make sure we don't touch it other than for vacation. That way we don't have to worry about walking around with cash or spending too much because we can only spend what's in that account. Has worked really well these past two years, since I used to be famous for just impulse buying with my cc at Disney and then practically falling out of my chair when the bill showed up the next month.

The only simillar experience we have with this situation was when we booked 2 rooms at WL and were able to get the AP rate after it was already paid for. They told us we had an option to have the difference refunded to our credit card or left on our account to be used after we checked in. We opted to keep it on our account.
