Room charging with MagicBands

Hi!
I'm wondering how charging to your room works.
For example, I put my card and PIN when I check in online, great, done.

Once at the parks, for example I buy a souvenir, do they charge IMMIDEATELY after I put the pin code or do they add it all up at check out and THEN I can pay with CC/cash ? I have heard limits and stuff but I don't quite get it.

There's answers out there that I cannot link to for obvious reasons. Google your topic, you'll find what you're looking for in detail.

The basics from the results I've found: Resorts may have a limit 500/1000/1500 and once you hit that, it'll charge the CC on file. If you don't hit the limit or your trip is ending, it'll charge you very early in the AM on your checkout day.

it doesn't charge to your card immediately, it accumulates with the other charges on your room bill. when you check out, all of your room charges, including anything you bought in the parks and paid for using your magic band will be charged to your credit card. there are different thoughts/opinions/information on the possibility that your card will be charged sooner if you get to a certain amount of charges on your room. i don't have the details on that. if you want to pay with gift cards or a different credit card other than the one that you have on file, you need to stop down at the desk every so often and pay off your balance so that they do not automatically charge the card on file.

It initially gets charged to your room account. When the total of your purchases reach a certain dollar amount it is charged to your credit card.

Things at Disney always change. But the limits used to be:

• $500 if you're staying at a value resort
• $1,000 if you're staying at a moderate resort
• $1,500 if you're staying at a deluxe resort

When the total of your purchases reach those amounts it is charged to your credit card. You can always go to the front desk and apply cash or gift cards to pay off your balance before it gets charged. Once I missed and they cheerfully credited my credit card and I was able to use my gift card to pay the balance.

Day 4 : 350$ (it charges)
Day 5 : 50$

What happens to day 5? Do they charge 1000$ and then the 50$?
Also, do they give me a full receipt of everything I bought at check out?

I also received invoices at the end of my stay. But when I go to pay down my balance before they charge it I also request a printout and review it before paying. I go during Food & Wine fest, so the printout is long. Sometimes the CMs laugh at how many pages it is!

I'm going to be using this feature next time and in the future. I lost a card on our last trip, it was rough. Concierge and the CM's exhausted all their avenues to help me, but no luck was had in finding it. So from here on out, I'm gonna use the band... lesson learned.

Pay close attention to the charges. I didn't and ended up with a huge problem.

My CC issued me a new number in the middle of my stay (due to card numbers being compromised on their end). My CC is paid automatically from my checking account so it just happens. I have to admit that I do not track it as well as I should.

When I was refinancing my home I found out I had a $400 collection from Disney. Disney could not charge my purchases to the CC on file. But they did NOT contact me to make it good. I had no clue these charges had not been paid.

I obviously paid what I had spent (I am not a deadbeat) and it was all cleared up - but it was a hassle.

I'd keep a track of what you're spending and when you get close to that charge point, go and make your cash payment.

ETA: I don't know what your spending will look like, but you could always set limits. I mean, do you have an idea of what the cash payment would look like at the resort (don't answer that here, just think about it)?

If your cash payment during the trip is just going to get reset anyway by another charge, I'd let the charge go through and then with the last bill before you leave, pay that whole bill off. Then you wouldn't get an additional charge. Then just tackle the other ones when you get home.

Does that make any sense? lol.

Exactly. You have to keep a running balance in your head, or keep your receipts and add them up periodically, or stop by the front desk periodically and ask for a tally.

Or you can just pay cash at the initial point of contact with the vendor, instead of using your magic band.

Then just pay cash instead of charging to your magic band. Disney still accepts cash, credit and debit cards for payment on almost everything. There are a few vendors that only accept cash.

It may have changed since the last time we stopped there, but the small stand in the American Pavilion that sells funnel cake only took cash.
