Quick question:

If you are charging a table service meal to your hotel room, is it customary and accepted to also put the gratuity on the room charge, or should I cary cash for the purpose?

I'm hoping its just like paying for a meal with a credit card where the server usually brings you a slip to add your tip to the total, and sign.

It is exactly like paying with a credit card. They will run your room key and bring you a receipt just like the one you get for a regular credit card. There will be a space for a tip. You can put in the amount and total it on the bottom line. Just keep your copy to verify back to the hotel's print out.
FYI you can request a print out for your room charges from the front desk anytime you want. You will also get the complete print out at check out. If you are using express check out it will be on your door the morning you are leaving.
We like using the room key for charging purposes. No need to carry credit cards around the parks.
