Room Block Confusion

I know many people have been here... I am confused about the room block. I have many guests who are staying on Disney property but not at one of the three selected hotels. If I call and add their reservation number, will this count toward my room block? If so, does it just count towards the 25 room night guarentee (for the free room), and then I still need to meet my blocked rooms at each of the three chosen hotels, or does this kind of void the blocked rooms at the chosen hotels? Also, if people booked through expedia or other companies beside Disney, can I still call and add their reservation number to the room block? One more question... how easily can I change the room block, and what happens if I meet the 25 minimum rooms of guests staying on property, but not the blocked rooms at the three selected resorts, which seems like it might be the case. I am so confused?

From what I was told by my consultant was that the room blocked rooms at your chosen resorts are what are guaranteed for your guests to receive the room block discount. It doesn't mean you have to have guests with that number of room nights in that particular resort. If more than the number of nights you've set aside are requested by your guests they might not be able to get the wedding discount. That doesn't really make sense to me but that is what was told to me.

Manually added rooms (i.e. rooms booked with other discounts, through expedia or whatever) count towards your room block minimum. So if you have guests booking 25 room nights in total then you qualify for the free night.

Exactly— you only have to fill 25 nights. It doesn't matter how many are at what resort or whether the resort is even in your block. As long as your guests stay a total of 25 nights at ANY Disney hotel, you're OK.

It is very easy to change the room block up til about 90 days out. Closer than 30 days out, you can't change anything.

You are only required to fill 80% of the number of rooms you block, and if it looks like you won't be making that number, you can reduce the number of rooms in your block before 90 days out so you won't be penalized. Worst-case scenario, you can get other people who will be at WDW during that time (like DISers!) to give you their reservation numbers to add to your block. So basically no one ever gets penalized for not filling rooms.

also, side note (and i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong) - but i thought you had to book disney rooms through disney? i mean i thought disney resort hotels didn't appear on sites like priceline, expedia and whatnot, that its either a TA or disney. not that that appears to be an issue for you.

as others have stated, you can add any on property room. they are very good about keeping you up to date and we double checked where we knew people were staying. we ended up making our block!
good luck!

They do appear on travel sites - we're cheap :lmao: so that's how we booked POFQ last time we stayed there. Hope that helps in case anyone's guests are wondering the same.

good to know!! i think i ws thinking of priceline maybe - where you don't know exactly where you are staying until you pay. anyways, will have to check that out! i always thought, from the various info sites i use, that the only discounting disney does is through disney. like, they keep a tight lock on their room prices.

will check it out!

Glad I could help :goodvibes It was a much better discount than anything disney was offering at the time too! Of course this was a yr and a half ago but I'm sure it hasn't changed too much. I think Travelocity was the cheapest.

Hi folks how much of a discount do the guests get?

It varies by season, but in general it's about 30% off at Deluxes with convention centers, about 15% off at other Deluxe resorts, a little less than 15% at Moderates, and less than 10% at Values. Often you'll get a better discount by taking advantage of a promotion for the general public and then calling DFTW to have them add the reservation numbers to your block.
