We went through Davids DVC to rent points and have been told they currently have room availability but no DVC owners that have the points. We need two reservations each 132 points. What are the chances of this going through? Is it common to be put on a wait list? We are exactly at the 7 month period before out trip.

David has more people looking to rent points than points available to rent. It is possible that he will get more members looking to rent points, but that it will be too late for your desired reservation.

So what other options do we have then?

Rental agencies don't actually own the points, so it's not like calling up Disney to find out if there is room availability and if there is they reserve it for you. They contact people on their member list to see if there is anyone who has points to be rented. It really depends on what you are looking for. It's not a general question "do you have points available"? For example, if you wanted to stay at VGF next August, it is more than 7 months away so they would have to have a VGF member on their list who has points to rent for that time period. DVC memberships have use years so a member might be able to rent for a certain date but not another. For example, I have an April use year and I already banked my 2015 points so would not have points available to rent for a stay before 4/1/16.

None of the companies have points of their own. They are all looking for members who want to rent out their points. If one pays more than the other to members, then that company would probably have a better chance of having the points you need. But, the Polynesian Villas and Bungalows are new. Members who own there might be using their points for their own reservation and not offering them for rent.

Since you are at exactly 7 months, any member on their list could fill your request so that makes it easier. I booked a May 8 to 12 reservation at Poly last week with my BWV points. From looking the availability tool, Poly is pretty much open for the spring months. The thing to remember is members don't "bank" their points with the agency. They email their members and see if anyone responds. The member then makes the reservation for you, not the agency. Since you are now at 7 months, hopefully they will have a member to book it for you. Before today, only a Poly member could book it.

So it really does not matter who I go with then. My chances would probably be the same with any company correct?

It depends on how many members they are working with. One could have a much larger list to draw from.

So would you suggest I just stay with Davids then or try another agency? Just so afraid to make the wrong decision and then lose out. I guess if worse comes to worse we can consider a split stay between Poly for 2 nights and CBR for 4 nights booking through Disney. That would only cost us around $160 to $70 more total. It would be more of a pain switching resorts but Disney does simply that by transporting your luggage for you.

Have you looked to rent directly from an owner? There is a rental section here on the boards and since you are at 7 months you could rent from an owner of any resort.

I have looked but did not see anything current. Does nor seem to be a lot available on here. Most threads are closed which I assume that means their points have been rented out. I can keep looking daily. Just feel like I had a good chance since there seemed to plenty availability for the Poly during the spring. Did not realize I would run into them not having owners with available points. so disappointing:sad:

I'm not that familiar with the agencies but doesn't David's charge a deposit? Since you are waitlisted, did they give the deposit back? I would try and see if they have anything this week with the 7 month window opening up. If they don't, then I would start looking around.

They do charge a deposit fee but if they can not fulfill your request or if you no longer want to wait they will refund you. I am at the 7 month window today! Should I try other places then?

It wouldn't hurt to start checking around.

This is the kind of situation where David's could get someone contact them tomorrow with points or it could be weeks impossible to tell.

It might well work out but it may not so i would start working on a plan B. I would at least speak to other rental agencies to see of they have points. If not I'd give Davids up to about 6 weeks then I'd probably give up and book through Disney. Even at slower times once you get to about 5 months out DVC availability starts to dry up.

I wouldn't stress. You are planning a time of the year that is not that busy for DVC. If you wanted October to December, I would be concerned, they go fast.
Thanks!! I will try to relax a little and just start looking at other options.

Yep and that is exactly why this makes it hard. We do have a plan B even if it is not exactly what we want it will still work out. It is just hard now because we had our heart set on this and thought we had it in the bag sort to speak. Once the path is set which ever direction that may be we will comes to terms with it. So glad for these boards and having everyone's help or if nothing else lending of your ears.

Since you are now at the seven month mark for making your reservation, your chances of getting the necessary points should have improved tremendously. Before the seven month mark, David's and other rental companies had to have a PVB owner with enough points to book your dates. Now, at the seven month mark, any DVC owner with enough points can book your reservation. Surely, David's has a list of non-PVB owners who have the points ready to rent.

Good luck!
