How often do they rotate the root attendants? We loved our room and location on the Fantasy last March, but clashed with the room attendant and didn't get the greatest service. We're be on the Fantasy again in February. If we book the same room, are we likely to get the same room attendant? How many rooms to they get? Always on the same floor/side?

It depends on the room state room host's contract. I believe they're six months long, but a lot of them renew them, or change ships, etc. We loved our room steward (different cruise line) but he "jumped ship" in the middle of our cruise and went to a different ship of the line so we had to "train" a new one. In other words, it's all individualized.

I don't know exactly how often they get switched around but with almost a year between your cruises, I think it would be very unlikely you would get the same host. At a minimum, they would get new rooms when they get back from their break when starting a new contract. As the PP mentioned, the contracts are often 6 months in length.

We were on the fantasy in October and loved our room attendant. We booked the same stateroom plus the one next door for our cruise 2 weeks ago. We hoped that We would have the same stateroom attendant again.

She wasn’t, she had the staterooms down the hall from us. When she came back from her leave, her normal staterooms had a different attendant and she was assigned a new set of rooms.

To the person who asked how many staterooms they have, on our May 19th cruise, our attendant had 14. I know this because I was worried about him and asked. He could not keep up with the workload and literally worked all the time. Our last attendant had the same rooms and managed to have an afternoon rest - which is much needed. Their workload is heavy.

I have been in the same stateroom or at least the same area for 5 cruises and have never had the same attendant.

Holy cow! I can’t imagine. I’ll remember that when I tip.

Probably not likely. We've run into past stateroom hosts on future cruises and they were always working a different part of the ship. When you do fish extender deliveries you tend to go past all of the stateroom hosts. Once their contract ends it is unlikely they would get the same group of cabins when they return from their vacation. They likely just put them in another area where someone else just left.

Generally on each ship we would book the stateroom around the same area. We've only had the same stateroom host for two of our cruises.

On one of my cruises, my stateroom host said she had 12 staterooms. She was, actually, saying she was lucky that the guests in all her staterooms were very tidy...otherwise, I think she would be there all day.

We do try to make sure we're not messy....we keep our shoes in the closets or under the bed, pjs folded in a drawer and any clothing hung up.

I had the misfortune of walking by a stateroom that looked like a hurricane had gone through it...not sure why some people think that it's appropriate but I hope they know to add to the gratuity. I'm sure stateroom hosts sees all kinds....I just wished they had less rooms since they may end up with a whole row of disaster rooms....

The thing about 'disaster rooms' is it may not have occurred to them that the stateroom attendant would tidy up. In most hotel they don't. They take care of the bathroom and make the bed and that's it. So it wouldn't have been on my radar before this trip that what we left on our floor would affect our attendant one way or the other except for stepping over it.

I'd really rather they left clothing alone, even though we're not messy ourselves, but that's separate.

I understand your point...but I disagree. I don't believe that disaster rooms are a result of guests thinking that the stateroom hosts are merely going to step over it. I understand that not everyone is aware of how they clean (including vacuuming the floor) and you may have a point there. However, even if they didn't think they would clean up, they do know that the beds would be made. How are the stateroom hosts suppose to make the bed with all clothing thrown all over the floor and bed. Do the guests still assume that their clothes would be stepped over while making the bed?

No one can ever convince me that disaster rooms are not exactly what they are --- guests who are selfish and inconsiderate. The disaster room I saw walking down the hall was not merely a few things thrown on the bed and floor...it was indescribable. And this encounter was near the end of the cruise so they would have been at least aware that cleaning does happen. I don't think they care or worse, they believe that since it's the stateroom host's job to clean, they don't need to help.

I would agree, though, that some may be oblivious since it's likely they behave like this everywhere.

And I also agree that I would rather they didn't touch my clothes, so I simply put them away.
