Room assignments at WL?

I was just over at Deb Will's site, and there is a big notice that while other resorts may accept faxed room requests, WL no longer accepts these faxes. I am wondering if they just throw them out because of volume, or if the system has changed and rooms are given at the desk upon check in rather than being preassigned. Anybody know how the rooms are given out at WL? Otherwise...I am tempted to fax my request...old habits die hard...but if there is no longer preassignment, that would be a different story! Thanks for any info.

I don't think it's different than any of the other resorts in the way rooms are assigned. I think somebody said enough is enough wit the faxes (just a guess). The room assigner gets all the requests through the reservation system anyway so they probably got tired of all the faxes that were coming in. I'm sure it's overwhelming and redundant. I did fax requests on our last trip but I'm not going to anymore because I'm just afraid it's more annoying than anything. I don't want it to backfire on me. :earseek: Of course, that's just my personal thoughts.

Good luck and have a great trip.

On our last trip, we had heard about the no fax situation, too. We simply noted all of our requests on our ressie and we did fine. Really, unless you go crazy all of your requests will fit on your ressie with no problems. I like the no fax system anyway because it gives everyone a fair shot at their room preference.

I need advice from all of you Experienced DISers.

If you didn't catch my posts about how I had REALLY bad luck with some of the CM while arranging my reservations, I'll do a short re-cap. Basically, every time that I called in, I was told that I had the AP rate and come to find out I didn't. Well after several attempts, I was able to get 9 nights in a standard view room at WL with the AP rate but the first two nights we are staying in a courtyard view room at rack rate ($334.50/per night)...YIKES! I am leaving well enough alone b/c every time I have called back a mess has resulted (I guess it's due to the fact that we have two separate ressies since we are staying more than 10 nights and two diff. rooms)...anyway... I want to request non-smoking and a king room but am TERRIFIED that if I call back, the CM that I talk to will somehow delete my AP rate standard view room and I won't be able to get it back. Do you all think I should chance it...whatever room I get, I get or should I call back and ask for my requests and HOPE that they don't mess it up?

Angie--I would ask to speak with guest services on that one--call the main number and ask to be transfered over to guest services and explain to them the situation. good luck :)

Just wanted to say beware of what you ask for. The last two visits to WL we were surprised with a King bedroom (we never request anythng except non-smoking). Well the 2 times we got a King bedroom, it was handicap accessible, which means there is NO bathtub, only a roll-in shower. For a day or 2 I can do that, but for a week visit, I need a tub to soak in. I'm starting to think that most of the rooms with King beds are HA rooms. So hopefully when you asked for a King room, you did ask to not be in a HA room. BTW, we have on both occassions gone back to the desk and had our rooms changed and then ended up with 2 queen beds with a tub. Since we NEVER request anything other than non-smoking rooms, we are almost ALWAYS upgraded to a better room. I think it's because we have no restrictions of what we HAVE to have and are so flexible. Also we never send in a fax for any of our resort stays, no matter where they are and we visit WDW 5 or more trips a year.

N2mm--I have asked for a king room...and I am wondering, is the lack of a bathtub the only difference between HA and non-HA accessible?

Pretty much the only difference is the tub, plus there are a few extra bars in the bathroom for assistance. Obviously if there is only one bed, there much more walking around room.
