I am considering buying DVC, our family at present consists of myself wife and three boys aged 6, 3 and 3, what sized accomodation should i be looking to book, if i buy in?, would i need to book a 2BR or could we fit into something smaller?, we would probably only be buying 150pts to start with. Thankyou.

IMO you will need enough points for a 2 bedroom. The studios and 1 bedrooms have a cap of 4 people + a child under 3 in a crib.

You might be able to make do with the 1 BR while your boys are young. Once they get up around age 10 or so, a 1BR will feel very cramped. You can always add on after your initial purpose. Good luck with your decision!

YUP, a 1 bdrm should do you just fine for now. Add a roll-away or bring an airbed and the boys will have a ball!

Live long and prosper, Ferengi!

Although you could do a one bedroom very comfortably for now, there will come a time in just a few years when you will need a 2BR. 150 points will get you 5 nights in a 2BR at Old Key West in the summer season, or longer in other seasons. Banking/borrowing can also extend your vacation time. Ask lots of questions here - you will get good advice. Good luck with your decision!

I don't agree that a 1-BR is sufficient for a family of 5 (unless one of the children is still sleeping in a crib). 1-BR DVC resort units only provide bedding and towels for 4. There are no roll-aways or cots. Even with our family of 4, we always stay in a 2-BR. It's great to have two bedrooms and two bathrooms!

And let's not even get into discussion about the inconsistant enforcement of DVC's rule, "maximum occupancy in a 1-BR is 4."

I agree. This is excellent advice. A resale at OKW could provide great vacations in a 2-BR.

Thanks for the input guys, we like to have the kids sleep in a bedroom away from the living area, so the 2BR sounds good to us, we also want beds and linen for everyone as we are coming from overseas. We would have to visit July/August time due to school holiday periods, if i have read other info correctly could i say purchase this August, bank the 150 points book for August 2003, and borrow from 2004 giving me 450 points to play with for August 2003?. Would that work?.

That is actually a very common technique for someone that may not plan a trip every year. You can have 300-450 points to play with every two to three years.

THe larger units are so much more comfortable, I can't imagine cramming 5 people into a one bedroom unit.

Checking the current point charts for OKW for the time period of July to the middle of August, you could book on a Sun for 12 nights in a 2 BR for 446 points. After the middle of August the points go down
for the same ressie by about 50 points. If you could pick up a OKW resale for 150 or a little more you would all set. You could buy now at WLV or the new BCV after the first of the year. But the point cost will be higher and the points for a 2 BR will be considerably hiigher.
