Room accommodations question

I am a new DVC member who is trying to determine the most reasonably priced accommodations for an additional member of our family. We will be staying at BCV, with no extra points, nor do we want to barrow points from 2003. Can we pay cash for a room at BCV and if so is a member discount available? If they staying at the Beach Club Resort, are we entitled to a room discount? Can we receive better discount at the Beach Club using our Disney Club Membership or AP? Our stay starts is in January 2003. Any advice?

You can get a member's discount at any DVC resort, if you, as the member book it and pay for it (at least, make it look like you are paying). As far as AP's are concerned you will always do better thru them than with the Disney Club, about 10% better, I believe, although sometimes the savings are much greater than that. January's AP rates aren't out yet, but right now they go thru 12-25, and the rates on mousesavers.com lists the cost for a 1 bedroom at BCV as $299 per night, and AP costs for the hotel as $169-$199 per night. At the moderate resorts the AP rate is $79-$89 thru 12-25. The rates for January should be even greater, though they won't come out for another month or so. Check out mousesavers for all the AP rates, and the Disney Club rates, too. By the way, if you are a member of DVC, and are using pts you are already receiving a discount on your room, if you multiply the pts per night X $10, you will get a general idea of how much you are paying per night.

Cruelladeville,
Thanks for the info, we do not want to use our 2003 points because we would like to take the entire family in 2003. I understand your point on the DVC points vs cash. Will see if we can get the AP rate when they come out.

Technically, YOU have to be staying in the room at BCV to get the discount. If you are already holding a room with points, you would have to say that they were staying in the points room and you in the cash room. This could be screwed up if you use your room keys for charges and passes. So definitely at AP discount is the way to go

Kem's right that you have to be the one staying in the cash room. The member discount is 25% off rack rate. Chances are you'll find something less expensive than that.

Also, there is generally very limited availability of rooms for the member cash discount. They are a different inventory than those sold for cash by CRO.
