The ship was built in two different sections in two different shipyards and then welded together. They discuss this on the "Making of the Magic" presentation. I think that the space you are talking about is where they mated the two parts. You may have less "noise" from the cabin on the other side of the space but I don't remember noticing any noice from adjacent cabins anywhy.
