Anyone been to Rome? What area of the city is best to stay in?

We stayed in the area near termini. It was easy to get around and all of the major attractions were within minutes of walking, bus, or metro. We rented an apartment, but there are several hotels in the area.

We were there in October last year. We stayed in a hotel near Termini too which was OK and walkable to the sights. If I went back though I'd try to stay nearer the Piazza Navona as it was much more atmospheric there.

We stayed right near the Pantheon (Hotel Abruzzi) and walked to everything -it was very central. Took this shot from our window

It was all we could have asked for with that location at a very fair price.

What a great view! That is the general area I was talking about. Really much more atmospheric than our hotel surroundings.

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the window -the Pantheon is my most favorite building in world, architecturally. It wasn't a 5-star hotel ...but it was quite nice, with the very active Piazza della Rotunda at our doorstep and Piazza Navona a short walk away.

I love Rome it's my favourite city! We stayed by the Colosseum, we chose here because we found an hotel with a rooftop pool which turned out to be a great choice - it was very close to the Colosseum and Forum but also on the main bus route for the Vatican etc although we did tend to walk most of the time.

I'd choose this area again even in winter months as although we liked visiting all the tourist spots, it was nice to come back to a slightly less touristy area for our evening meal.

Rome is my favourite city. We stayed right by the Vatican city as its . Lovely and peaceful in the evening and so pretty. You will love it.
