Hi all,

Just wondering your thoughts on something romantic to do in Philly at night? I have a ton of things I've done in NYC but nothing in Philly. Any ideas? Thanks!! :goodvibes

Depends on which part of Philly. Personally we like to stroll the Manayunk area.... kind of "boutiquey" area along the river with lots of nice shops and places to eat.... but is is about 10 miles from what most people thing of as "Philly".

Or, go to the Kelly Drive area and walk the paved trails along the river... also nice places to eat near, but not so many shops. Many folks hold outdoor weddings here as it is part of Fairmount park.

I wouldn't do that at night. During the day it is fine, but at night it is not a well-traveled area and very isolated.

First I would ask exactly what do you consider romantic? Dining, shopping, moonlit strolls? Give us Philly people something to work with here! ;)

We are trying out the Palm steakhouse for dinner and it'd be nice to do a moonlit stroll after it. We love going into Princeton and just getting a coffee and sitting near a fountain and enjoy eachother's company. He doesn't even know I've planned a weekend in Philly for his birthday or dinner or anything. I just booked a 60 minute massage for the two of us during the day since he mentioned last night he wanted to try that out sometime.

I've heard Rittenhouse square is really nice..is it equally as nice at night?

THANKS!

Well, there are lots of theaters an easy taxi away.... not the movie ones, but the types that have plays. RS is shops and restaurants.

Personally, I like it down where I work...... in Old City, around 5th and Market streets. I don't know if I would call it "romantic" but there sure is a LOT to see and do..... great places to get dessert, a few places to shop, and historical sites. The side streets are where the best stuff is found.

RS area is more upscale than most, but I prefer not to be quite so upscale. Old city is just a little more "earthy"... :teeth: ..but more fun for me, and I'm almost 44.

Check out the spirit of Philadelphia they have evening dinner cruises with dancing. We gave that to one of my daughters teachers one year as a thank you from the class when I was homeroom Mom. She sent us such a thank you after she took the cruise and thought it was very fun.

Yeah I've been to the bars in Old City once before and it was fun but never really got to walk around. I like the places to get dessert and the historial sites so I think we'll give that a try! Thanks so much for the help again.

Sherri - When I booked the hotel an option for that came up to add to the cost of the hotel and it looked really fun, but we won't have the time since we have dinner reservations already booked. But, definitely next time I'm trying that since it looks like a good time.

Tim,

I feel a warm fuzzy connection to you, as I am a Princetonian who works in NYC and is about to marry a Philadelphian. In any case, I recommend Rittenhouse Square. Head that way and visit all of the pocket-hole-in-the-wall bars and clubs. It's surprisingly romantic. OR, have you been to the Plough and the Stars, in Old City? www.ploughstars.com Terrific vibe. Is your boyfriend legal or should we be looking for fun activities for 20-year-olds? ;)

Dana

P.S. are you working in finance? The August start is tipping me off.

Dana,

Wow, small world! I was actually in Princeton last night with him (where we had our first date actually..you can read up on that in the "where you met your DH" thread...but not close to DH yet!! :teeth: ). I just love it there. And yes, I'll be working in accounting/finance in August. But not to worry, he's 22 as well..although he loves to rub it in that I'm 6 months older.

My best friend is harping on me to go to RS...she's a Philadelphian at heart. Man, he's gonna be so surprised when he hears what I have planned.

Oh and there's definitely a connection because that plough and the stars looks right up my alley.

And congratulations on the wedding!!!

And towards the end of the night, we're meeting up with friends in the "gayborhood." I still laugh when I hear the name of that.
