Romantic Honeymoon

My fiance and I are having our wedding here in Arkansas as it is more convient for us and our families, but we are having our honeymoon at Disney at the Animal Kingdom Lodge on Nov. 28th through Dec. 3rd Our first choice was Grand Floridian, but we couldn't get that. At first, I was really excited about staying at Animal Kingdom and thought it'd be romantic and nice, but the more I've heard about it, the more I think it's one of the more not-so-romantic resorts. Is this true ? What are some of the more romantic things about it ? We are staying in one of the concierge Savannah view rooms.

I think the rooms look very romantic, especially if you have a savannah view. Have you looked at picture of the resort, it could possibly change your mind?

We stayed at AKL for half of our honeymoon. We love the Boardwalk, where we spent the first half of our honeymoon, but decided to move to AKL to save some money and be able to extend our stay. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a savannah view room and we LOVED it. It was so much fun to be able to wake up in the morning and watch the giraffe's eating their breakfast while we ate on our balcony. We also enjoyed watching the animals from the various lookouts through out the resort. Dinner at Jiko is fantastic.

AKL is VERY different from the Grand Floridian its hard to compare the two. If you are looking for something that feels more like the GF, you may want to check out the Boardwalk or the Beach/Yacht Club. While none of them are the GF, they more closely match the feel of the GF - AKL is in my opinion entirely different and you may be disapointed depending on what you are looking for.

animal kingdom lodge is great & very romantic. were actually vacationing there next week. the lodge has dark wood & warm colors, its animal & africa themed, there are some great nooks & lounges, fine dining boma & jiko are great, the pool & the hot tubs, spa treatments at the health club but our favorite thing about the akl is the rooms. with the netting over the big beds, the woodwork on the furniture, the balcony with the view of animals & the savannah.

if youre still not satisfied maybe look into the yacht club instead, its more formal like the grand floridian.

I jst recently got engaged at WDW this past August and we stayed at AKL...we loved it. We thought is was very romantic. it is more secluded, the savannah views are awesome. I mean you are really transported. The lobby is awesome and very grown up. The smells and music in the evening are so unforgetable. We have this thing that we are trying to stay at all the moderates and deluxes at least once (hopefully more ) and AKL is one of the ones we will definitly return to. Don't get me wrong I love the Grand Floridian as well... but it is not like you are loosing out by staying at AKL....we visited the Grand loridian many times actually the night we were engaged we went to dinner at Nercoosee's and then walked the beach to the POlY to watch wishes!

We really enjoyed buying a bottle opf south african wine in the store downstairs in the lobby(they will charge like triple from roomservice!) and just relaxing on our balcony overlloking the savannah then hitting the hottub! I ahve also heard you can arange to have dinner set up outside on the balcony!

Dan also had the room "decorated for us w/ rose petals and champagne and the AKL staff was awesome...here are some pics:

I think AKL can be very romantic also. I have been to Disney 15 times and brought my boyfriend there for his first WDW trip in Aug and we had a great time. All he can think about is going back to WDW and staying at AKL again. It is true that the AKL is different from GF and if you want something more like that to stay at the Deluxes near EPCOT but AKL is still romantic in my opinion.

The mood and setting was great and watching the animals at night together on the balcony we thought was romantic. I also think the seclusion of the resort makes it romantic and when we were there it was quiet.
