I meant to post this closer to Valentine's:
Do you believe in Soulmates?
Do you believe in Twin Flames? ("One soul shared between two physical bodies")

You can vote for more than one!

Myself, I don't believe in either of these. I do believe there are people out there that you click with and share chemistry with, but in the practical sense.
I'm not a believer in predestination in the sense of "fate" so much as the patterns we've made for ourselves, based on our behavior and beliefs.

I believe in soulmates but in the practical sense. I don't believe we are born with "souls" that pre-determine who/how we are. I believe our soul (as in our inner is made up of our upbringing and life experiences. Sometimes you are lucky enough to find someone whose soul matches yours. I also don't believe there is just one soulmate for everyone.

Romance is about the only thing I believe in predestination about. I dated some wonderful women but the only one I "clicked" with was the one in hindsight that was just the like woman I always dreamed about marrying when I was a teen. By that I mean, the woman who appeared in my dreams at night as my wife.

I believe in soulmates- my grandparents were a great example of this. I don't believe that people are destined for a certain person. And I don't believe that there's someone for everyone.

And I hate tacos and fajitas.

I believe in soul mates & am fortunate to have found mine almost 32 years ago. I believe everybody has one. Many people just settle for good enough before finding them. That's JMO, of course.

I settled once, which was the biggest mistake of my life. I loved him, but I wasn't deeply in love with him. He wasn't my best friend or the person I would have been happy spending every moment with for the rest of my life.

That marriage ended in divorce & I was very fortunate to find the person I felt that way about. I only wish I would have waited for the right one to begin with.

ETA: My parents were also soul mates.

I don’t believe in any of that stuff.

I agree with Mrs. Ciz.

Same here. I'm too much of a math person to think we have one match out of 7 billion people. The chance of actually finding them would be too small.

I think there are lots of people out there you could be happy with, and out of all the ones whose merits appeal to you, you pick the one whose faults you can live with. :rotfl:

DH and I have been together since college: 32 years total, and married 25 this May.

I think more along the lines of "kindred spirits" than soulmates. There are just some people you naturally connect and feel comfortable with. But that's in general, not necessarily just romantic relationships.

My husband and I have grown and changed so much over the 27 years we have known each other. We had a fantastic romance/love story, but I still don't think we were necessarily a perfect match or absolutely "meant to be". The key is that over time we have grown together. Now there is certainly no one else out there that would be a better spouse for me, but that's because there's no one else who has had decades of developing and changing along with me to become the perfect fit.

I think some of us have a different definition of soul mates. To me, it means two people who fit perfectly together. They're happiest, when they're together & they don't like being apart. Basisically, one oompletes the other.

Is there someone else out there somewhere that would fit DH or me equally well? I don't know. I do know I've never met anyone else who even came close..

You're saying that the woman you clicked with was identical to the woman you dream about as a teen? Were they identical only in appearance? That I find very interesting! I've heard stories like yours. I know of a special FX artist who drew a picture of a woman, and later dated a woman who looked exactly like that (without prior knowledge of her existence).

I don’t believe in any of that stuff. However, I’m pretty darn happy with the husband I picked 31 years ago!
::yes:: "Picked" being the operative word. I've made both good and bad relationship decisions over the years; all completely within my control - no fate involved. I've got to say though that the bad ones definitely helped me refine my criteria for the good ones. :goodvibes

I completely agree with the bolded, although not in any supernatural sense. What a joy to find somebody who just "gets us". :hippie: I also love the rest of your ideas expressed here. My DH and I wouldn't even be honestly described as kindred spirits but we did start out with a firm foundation of shared values and have grown to be more an more on the same page as the years have passed.

I absolutely do think there are those meant to intertwine with us all. Sometimes people are meant to stay and sometimes there is a brief but necessary sync up to shift the course of a life. I grew up singing the hymn Make me a channel of your peace and if this isn't offering myself as an instrument I really can't fathom what it does mean, so I go with it.

Seems some intertwinings are romantic partners (I found my other half early) and many more are platonic, but over the course of my life I have totally experienced a unique sync up with some humans on a whole other level that feels, somehow, otherworldly. Sometimes they save me, and sometimes I do the saving, but when the situation presents itself it is usually so charged it is unmistakable IMO.

I don't think people are predestined to be "soulmates" or anything, but I do think they can become soulmates.
What happened to your DIS board girlfriend? Your DGF? I thought you two would have been spinning together in the Teacups by now!

I do love tacos!

And so you shall!
