Romantic Anniversary Dining

Hey All -

My better half and I are celebrating 20 years as best friends, 16 years as dating/and or married and 8 years as actually married this August. We are partyin the in the World. It will be our first trip as new DVC members and we are very excited about 9 days in Disney!

We have been many times before and must admit that we are not that 'out.' But for this special occasion, we would love to hear suggestions about where we should go to dinner! I am planning on telling DDR that it is an anniversary dinner.

Where would you all dine and Why??

First off, Congratulations.

Where would I dine and why...I'd opt for Citricos or Bistro de Paris. Why my other half (Padalyn) took me to Citricos as a christmas gift a few years ago. We had a delightful dinner. Great food, and wine. It was a very elegant romantic dinner....I still think she was trying to get me drunk on purpose...but I digress. Like most places in WDW no-one batted an eye that we are a same sex couple. I have only done a hard ticket F&W event at Bistro, but I have heard very favorable things about them, and their acceptence, and I adore French food. I picked these two places as they also tend to a low percentage of children dining in them. Trust me, I love the food at CG, but would no longer call it a romantic restaurant....I found CG running amuck with rug rats the last time I was there (but the food is soooo good - I just give them evil looks and shock them into submission )

Oh gosh yes. That is a lovely restaurant. If you want to spend some serious money you could do Victoria and Albert's.

I love the food at Jiko too. Although, since there has been a change in executive chefs, I'm not sure if it's as wonderful as it once was. (Haven't been there since the chef change).

California Grill is another popular high end spot that folks like.

I can't recommend Narcoosee's. Many folks like it but my DP and I had terrible service and really poor food there. Haven't been back.

If you want really nice service (try asking to be seated at Oscar's table) and excellent beef you can dine at the Yachtsman's Steakhouse. I like to take my DP there for her birthday and she loves her steak, you know. The Crew's Cup Lounge is right next door and it makes a great place for a pre and post dinner drink.

If you want atmosphere you could try The BlueZoo. It's mainly seafood, and it's improved since it opened. I love the interior decor. Low lighting and a nice corner would make it romantic. No real views though. It's at the Dolphin, but that shouldn't matter, eh?

So, what sort of food do you and your spouse like? That might be easier; to start with your favorites and then pick a place that does it the best.

That makes the list too. Go with the wine flight to pair with dinner for an almost out of body experince. (Tiggr33 drooling all over laptop.....not a pretty site - 24 days 24 days 24 days until I get a WDW fix....

Ditto. I did however LOVE the mussels as a appetizer...I think I may have licked the bowl if Padalyn and my Mom weren't kicking me under the table. My entree was horrible as was the sevice.

The Crew's Cup Lounge is right next door and it makes a great place for a pre and post dinner drink.

I love the lounge, never crowded and you can order from the menu in there now. We should meet there for a drink next month.

All of the above suggestions are great places!

In addition to those, we also like Citricos at the Grand Floridian; The Hollywood Brown Derby, and the one that we like the best: The Garden View Tea at the Grand Floridian. I know, you wouldn't think it's romantic. But it sure is for us!

May I say something about the tea? We had a terrible experience there. Horrid service (spilled-poured) champagne in my DP's lap, cold nasty sandwiches with the edges dried and curling. Crunchy, dried out scones. NOPE! I'll make the drive to Mt. Dora before I go there again! The Windsor Rose does a wicked tea!

Really? We've never had a bad experience there.

When were you there?

We were there most recently in February, and are going again this weekend to celebrate a delayed Mother's Day with my mom. It's one of our favorite places! And you can probably tell from my other posts that we're real foodies. If the food wasn't good, we sure as heck wouldn't go back.

For great food and even better service, I would suggest Citrico's....as far as the romantic part, not sure if I would call it romantic, but definitely fine dining as one of Disney's signature restaurants. When I think of romantic, I think soft lighting, cozy surroundings, light music, this is rather a Mediterranean style restaurant, a bit funky in decor, but definitely one of the best meals on property.

PS.. on the teas.. I have actually been to the tea room at Mt Dora, it was wonderful, and at WDW.. I have to say in the beginning the tea room at WDW was incredible.. I have seen it decline over the years and the last time we visited, we said unless something wonderful happened there improving the quality of the food, it would be our last.

Upstairs is Bistro de Paris... good food, the last time we ate there, the couple at the next table got engaged.. we all checked out the rock.

Ok this one may be a little off the path here...Hunny (Tiggr33) and I find the Mexico restaurant in EPCOT very romantic - quiet, decent food, kinda a dark intimate enviroment...you get the picture. If seated up by the wall near the "river" one never even notices other people....

I have not eaten at Jiko yet...will get there one day I hope. V&A - the same story. Tiggr is the foodie, me I really have to have good service. I hate poor service, and that is exactly what I have had at Narcoossee's both times I went. The first time I was a solo diner. One would think that the server would realize that and take the second table setting away. I finally piled it up and pushed it to the window. I was ignored completely and had to get the head server to get my check. I was reading a book, but still....the second time as Tiggr said - she was ready to lick the bowl, the service was terrible, the kids were wearing cutoffs as I recall, and hats were not removed (one of Tiggr's pet peaves).

Ca Grill, well - the food is great. The dress has definately gone to park casual. We have seen folks in shorts, flip flops and generally overly casual clothing. I love the food, but the atmosphere is not what I would call romantic. It can be loud, but the general take is very casual...unfortunate, since the food warrants a better response from the diners I would think.

I agree with Citricos, and Paris, I don't really like the food at Wolfgang Pucks - maybe the upstaire is better. Flying Fish is not what I would call romantic, kinda loud as I recall.

Hands down Victoria & Albert’s, my better half and I have been there many time and never have we had a bad experience. For our first anniversary I decided to surprise him and take the trip to Disney with a meal a V&A… I called to make the reservation at V&A and explained we are a couple and that dining at V&A would be for our first anniversary. The day if the dinner the congratulated us and as we finished dinner and before we left they gave us each cards made out of chocolate congratulating us. When we got back to the our room we had tuxedo chocolate covered strawberries …I’m not really sure if V&A did this or the concierge staff at GF the gentleman at the concierge desk was family so It could have been him lol

I think folks have made some pretty great suggestions. Not to sound like a downer, however, but just about all restaurants, all high end at Disney, are LOUD and not exactly intimate. If you want an intimate, high end, very romantic experience, I strongly suggest Victoria & Alberts if for anything else, it's quiet, low lighting and beautiful. Expensive big time, but worth it.

My partner, Deni's, birthday is the 26th of this month.We are doing the Chef's Table at Victoria & Albert's a week from Saturday.

I'll let you know if I get a little "sugar in my bowl" so to speak as a result of that expense!
