As I begin to plan my wedding and Disney honeymoon, looking at prices and extras, I was wondering what all of you have done either on your anniversaries, honeymoons, special dates, that was new to you, that you did that you were really glad you both did together ... special dinner reservations, special resort, massages, fireworks cruise, horse and carriage, dinner shows?
DF and I will be on a budget and we may be opting for a value resort to stay the extra night or so rather than opt for the deluxe or moderate and have a shorter stay. But I want to know (splurge or not) what some of things were that made your trip extra magical!

Splurge on Dinner at the California Grill on the top floor of the Contemporary. Book your reservation about 45 minutes before the fireworks and plan to watch them I. Between the appetizer and main course. The waiter will coordinate the timing of the food. The catwalk where you can watch the fireworks is very romantic.

My dh and I celebrate our anniversary everytime we get to go (which isn't that often---haven't been there for 5 years). I always plan some surprises for him. The dinners at Narcosses, California Grill, Artist point are fabulous! One year I got a diver at Coral Reef resturant. I don't think you can do that anymore though. It was so cool. The diver came swam up to our table with a sign made for Kevin and Coral Reef had made our own menus with pictures of us on it for him. They might still do the menus not sure. The spas are nice but my husband doesn't like that kind of thing (which he did). You can do the Illuminations boat ride. I like to have a romantic basket sent to our room. There are lots of very nice romantic resorts you can go for nice midnight walks around. You can sit on the beach at Yatch club and watch fireworks. Of course don't forget the bride and groom ears. Congratulations on your wedding!

Thanks for the idea! I always hear great things about California Grill, we'll have to try it! The catwalk sounds awesome!

I don't think they do the diver either, but that must've been so cool for the both of you! :goodvibes I would like to do a spa too, but DF isn't too thrilled about it either! I love the idea of walking around the nice resorts, since we won't be staying at them! These are great ideas, thank you!

hmm... this could be cute....

Put a love note in the luggage...end it with....

Meet you for fireworks...poly...beach. and go there ahead of him, all dressed up in something pretty and barefoot.(Carrying shoes, of course!)

I'm having a Hero Medal from the Disney florist delivered to Be our Guest Restuarant during our first night...I am hoping, when it gets closer, I can arrange some type of flourish for it's delivery with the manager.

;) Let him pick the oyster and then the setting for your pearl in Japan. Even my DH was fascinated with that and they are not expensive.

This might not *seem* like first romantic thoughts, but for us, it was.
When DW turned 30, we had never had a real honeymoon. So we left the kids behind and went on a Disney trip of our own and we went in October. Fantastic!

We did MNSSHP. Not Romantic you say? I don't know, feeling like two kids at night, "trick or treating" in Magic Kingdom was kind of romantic actually.

San Angel Inn. The Interior Mexico atmosphere made for a great romantic dinner without spending the big Victoria and Albert cash.

**Epcot Food and Wine Festival**

Parks at Night. If it's just the two of you, any park at night is romantic to stroll through... I tried to narrow it down. MK... AK... Epcot... DHS... nah, they're all pretty romantic at night if it's just the two of you.

We went on our honeymoon almost 15 years ago to Disney! Going back this October for my 40th, can't wait. As for romance... If you can swing bumping up from a value I'd stay at Poly. The rooms are just ok but the atmosphere is worth it, walking on the beach at night, watching the fireworks from a hammock. Plus the values are geared towards families with kids. Your best shot at quiet is not a value. And think of the time you'll save on the monorail? Time is money. Lastly we had a blast at the Luau, walked from our room in the beautiful foliage and they have drinks and flower lays when you arrive. We also did California Grill (monorail to the contemporary BTW) and had a fabulous view from the cat walk for Wishes. Congratulations and have so much fun!

Thank you so much for all of your romantic stories and good advice :goodvibes !

I would love to stay at the Poly, the leis sound so nice, walking on the beach and swaying in a hammock to watch the fireworks, is a must do for us! That sounds so romantic!

I see a lot of California Grill recommendations, this must be on our honeymoon bucket list as well! :thumbsup2

Thank you all so much!

I just came back from Disneyworld and we celebrated our anniversary there. We left our daughter at Camp Dolphin and ate at Il Mulino's at the Swan Resort. Then we walked around the Boardwalk area a bit before hanging out in Jellyrollz for a few hours. We had a really good time and were glad that we had delayed our celebration (our anniversary is actually a month earlier) because we wouldn't have been able to arrange anything like that around home. :)

If you make a reservation at Narcoossee's around 8 you will be there for the MK fireworks show. They dim all the lights in the restaurant and you can either watch out the windows or go out on the veranda and watch the show while they pipe in the music for it. Plus it probably one of the best meals you could have there. The surf and turf is a good value for 2 dining credits as well.

THIS! One of my most favorite romantic memories is our dinner at the California Grill during Wishes! So romantic! I also have fond memories of a date night at Narcoosees and the Electric Water Pageant & Wishes viewing but that comes in second to California Grill.

Get all dressed up and have some wine :)

Our honeymoon at Disney was definitely our best trip there. We were very fortunate and blessed that our folks helped pay for it so we stayed in a "honeymoon" room at GF concierge level. We did the Luau and both Narcoosee's and CG during wishes but my most memorable experience was the morning Epcot Segway tour. We still tease each other about how dorky we look in this one photo of us together wearing our bike helmets on a Segway. It was a cool experience though and a great behind the scenes look at Disney. There is also an Animal Kingdom safari tour that I really want to do sometime soon that i think would be a good Disney honeymoon experience.

If you manage to get on Characters in Flight at Downtown Disney and there aren't many people around that can be pretty romantic, particularly if you time it when there are fireworks on. I managed to get a groupon offer for it last time so it was pretty reasonably priced too.

We'll be there again this year for our third anniversary, I booked Narcoosee's for dinner on our actual anniversary. Also, don't forget your anniversary buttons! We wore them throughout our entire trip last year and had a little pixie dust (fast passes for Dinosaur at DAK and some desserts).

Another vote to splurge and stay at the Polynesian. That's where we stayed for our honeymoon almost 10 years ago and we loved it. We're DVC members so we haven't stayed there since... very hopeful that they are going to add DVC room to the Poly so we can go back! We also did a horse and carriage ride at the Fort Wilderness campground and took in the Hoop Dee Do Revue. I don't remember it being very expensive and it was a nice break from all the people and excitement.

DH (Disney newbie) and I (seasoned veteran) went to WDW for our honeymoon and here are some of the things we did:

1) Upgraded to the Yacht Club over Caribbean Beach. Best decision I ever made.

2) Did the Wild Africa Safari Trek. It was a gift from my parents. It's spendy for two, both totally worth it.

3) Had tea at the Garden View Tea Room at Grand Floridian. I loved it. DH wasn't as thrilled but he was happy because I was happy.

4) Had dinner at the fancy French restaurant (second floor), timed so that Illuminations happened while we ate. We both really liked this experience, though we couldn't really see the fireworks. If you want an actual "dinner/fireworks" experience, eat at Rose & Crown.

5) Rode the train all the way around Magic Kingdom. Sat in the back. Cuddled. It was fun.

6) Had dinner at the California Grill during Wishes. Now THAT was cool. However even though we had a table reserved we opted to eat in the 'bar' area because the seats were more comfortable and intimate, and the food was lighter fare.

Remember to hold hands!

:) - Carey

We celebrated our anniversary at Disney last year and will do again so a couple weeks belatedly this year. (Actually I think last year was belated, too... we aren't August vacationers. Too hot.)

We dressed up for the Halloween party and scored a ton of candy. Got lots of reservations to good places and, though we're not firework people, getting reservations at just the right time to see fireworks from Narcoosee's was nice. My partner surprised me with a specially made cake there. We also upgraded to a moderate from our usual value resort.

When we went later in the fall we did a sleigh ride through Fort Wilderness, I believe. That was quite nice and romantic too.

We will be celebrating our 30th anniversary there this fall. We were doing a VR but unfortunately that doesn't look like it is going to happen....:sad1: We're still going to have a fabulous time though!

We have done our 15th, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29th anniversaries there and always make sure to do some extra special things. We have done the California Grill during the fireworks several times. It is nice to go out on the deck or you can make a point of requesting a table by the window on your reservation, indicate it is a special night, and be willing to wait for a window table. Very worth it. Our favorite waiter there is Walter and he is just awesome. Cali Grill is not currently taking reservations as they don't have a date for the reopen yet that I'm aware of.

Love the pearl idea at Epcot and we have done it several times. My favorite pieces of jewelry are things we got there. If you search my name you can see some of my pieces in the Pick a Pearl thread. If you do this, do it at Epcot, not Downtown Disney! The folks at Epcot are great and I won't even bother telling you how wretched our experience was at DTD.

Citrico's is also a fantastic romantic place for dinner. Love it and the food is awesome! We sat where you could see the open kitchen and the head chef made such a wonderful fuss over us! It was just lovely!

We treated ourselves to the Waynama Safari during one of our stays at AKL. You have to be staying there to do this but if you have never stayed at AKL I would consider staying there to do it or do a split stay if you want to do another resort as well. Splurge and do savanna view if you can swing it. You go out on a truck into the AKL savanna with a guide and then enjoy an amazing dinner from bread course through dessert with wine pairings all the way through at Jiko. Our second fav thing we have ever done at Disney. We also love getting a drink at the Victoria Lakes bar there and going to sit out by the fire pit out back on the savanna. The feel of this resort is just so different than any of the other resorts.

If you are not staying at one of the resorts serviced by the water taxis, go take an evening ride on one anyways! So pretty to see MK at night from the water. Take a water taxi from MK docks over to the WL and go take in that resort at night. Unreal. We've stayed there on 4 trips and it is just so pretty. If you go over very late at night you can get a drink at the Territory Lounge and go sit in the lobby and just take it in.

Our absolute fav thing we have ever done together to celebrate was actually a gift to us from an amazing cast member after some awful things happened during our trip 2 years ago. He arranged this for us, but you can do this for yourselves as well. Hire a boat to take you out on the Seven Seas Lagoon during Wishes. They will generally take you out for a lovely tour of the lagoon and show you some of the features you might otherwise not see and then they will stop out on the lake lined up with the castle so you can take it all in. Bring a bottle of lovely champagne, order a mini-castle cake or something decadent to nibble on and take it all in. Our fav fav fav thing to do and we will be doing this again this year. You can also do something similar during Illuminations at Epcot if you prefer that show. For us, its Wishes! :goodvibes

Hope some of those ideas either help! Make sure that you let your resort know you are celebrating and that it is on each of your reservations and have an absolutely great time!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Love this idea. Might do it next month when its just DH and me.
