Rolling Quarters!

It's amazing how much money you can save by just keeping up with your spare change and then rolling it once/twice a year! I've been busy all afternoon with my coin jars. (^-^) I have them separated by type. Anyone else do this?

Yep. at least once a year I roll coins and write on the jug how much we had. It nice to see the tally over the years.

I go through my jar once a month and roll them and just keep the rolled coins in there. Then I take them and deposit in my savings account or use it for unexpected emergencies.

That's a really good idea! My savings account could use some beefing up! And with my job, I deal with a lot of cash. I use it for the grocery and gas and other purchases, so at the end of the day I end up with a buttload of change.

It was fun, but it made my back hurt, to sit hunched over, counting.

We keep all change for the year and on Dec 31st (or 30th if on a Sunday), we take it to the coin counter at our bank We get enough that we can usually skip the ATM until mid-Feb.

I just let the change accumulate until I go on vacation. Then I take it to my bank where they have a free counting machine. I use the money to pay for tips.

I've saved up my change for the last 10 years. I have $3.48 in change, LOL. I have cash in my pocket maybe 3 times a year and the change is spent because it's pretty much all I have in cash.

Not only that, but any change I do happen to have saved up usually ends up stolen anyways. I find it in jars in my kids' rooms

Just this morning, I have PB&J for lunch. I need something crunchy to go with it. I practically turned the house upside down to find 2 more quarters to grab some Fritos out of the machine at work. I'll be without Fritos with my PB&J at lunch time

We all have change jars in our house. Our kids put part of their gift money and allowance in theirs. We have to roll ours too. Our bank does not have a coin counting machine. I WISH!

I refuse to pay Coinstar 9%. I'd rather roll.

I'm a roller from way back!

My dad and I used to roll coins when I was little, I was taught early on it was a painless way to save!

We used to use ours for a rental car & tipping Mousekeeping at WDW. Now that we no longer rent a car, we use it for tipping, snacks and shopping.

I always toss my coins in a jar. I also toss in $1 bills at the end of the day if I have a few left. The occasional $5 as well.

I used to save until I would have enough for a special treat for DD and I (like a B'way show or outlet shopping). My new thing is, I'm saving up until I have $50 or $100 and then I take it to my bank for coin counting (free) and get a $50 or $100 bill. That goes into a savings envelope which is very well hidden (before anyone asks, I don't keep it in the bank because it would be too easy to spend if I see something online that I want or to use it to pay a bill if I don't feel like taking $$ to the bank. Also, I want immediate access to it in the event of an emergency)

Saving coins has got to be the easiest way of saving money!

Does anyone else count their coins before dumping them in the counting machine at the bank? I always do. I can't tell you how many times the machine has been off by a few dollars! I count the money twice before going and even write down on a piece of paper how many of each coin.

The last time I did this, the guy at the bank opened the machine and there were so many coins caught up in the tubes and also all over the floor of the machine!!

I have been reading over on the Debt Dumpers forum and I have been inspired to find all my loose change and count it up and assign a job for it to do.

Looked in my vehicle, the bottom of my purse, the bottom of my OLD purse that I still have hanging around and came up with $16.52.

Many suggestions over on that forum so I have not decided as of yet what to do with it--save for vacation or apply towards a particular debt.

And I too hate paying the fee at CoinStar. Have only done that once and elected to get my money back in the form of a gift card to Starbucks. Unfortunately, I was only able to use it at ONE Starbucks. The rest of them said their register or system did not recognize the barcode when they tried to scan it. Bummer. Most of the time they had already made my drink and felt like it was a problem on THEIR end so they gave me my drink for free!

Not sure if my bank has a coin counting machine; will have to check that out.

Our banks will not take rolled coins. If you bring them in rolled, they break them open and put them in the counter. It's too easy for people to put a few coins on each end and fill the rest of the roll with slugs.

I worked at a bank and we wouldn't accept rolled coins either. I mean we would, but it was pointless because we had to break open every roll. But a friend is living in AZ and he said the bank won't accept anything that isn't rolled. Someone else commented and said that is also the case in Vegas. Seems ridiculous to me. I don't understand it at all.

I use the coinstar machine and get an amazon gift card so I don't lose any value. We live out of town from our families so I use the gift card to pay for holiday presents.

Hmm..I worked at a bank for 5 years. We would write the account number of the customer on the side of the roller. If it was short, we would deduct it from their account. We did a lot of merchant deposits, which meant lots of rolled coin. So we gladly took it. But that was a LONG time ago and things have definitely changed as far as privacy and information goes.

The ladies at the bank I go to have been seeing me for 2 years now. I bring them rolled coins so often that they don't really even question it anymore. They know where I work and I don't even have to slide my card anymore! (I used to go in all the time with my change when I was broke--had to pay those bills!)

I want to find out which banks have coin counters, though, because I'm fairly certain that mine does not. Damn you, Wells Fargo!!
