Does anyone use a rolling cooler as a carry one when flying? I can't find one that will collapse nicely to put in my luggage. I did see one at Target, it's softsided with the solid plastic liner, and it measures 11x15x17. NWA says carry ons are 9x14x22 or equal to 45 linear inches. Do you think I would have a problem with this one as a carry on??

Well, technically you are over on the one dimension, but under the total inches. IMO you wont have an issue, BUT if they are sticklers on the sizes it is too 'big' on one side. I know some of the lines are looking for anyreason to be able to charge you. Of course, dont have anything in the cooler that you would normally find in a cooler lol.. like liquids :). And if it's soft sided, when it's 'squished' does it drop to 9" on the 11" side??

Actually, she's over on 2 of the 3 dimensions. If they are checking, your cooler will be unlikely to fit in the sizer and won't be allowed as a carry-on. If they aren't checking, you'll be fine.

Oh, whoops, I missed the 2nd one.. eyes got crossed looking at them..

That said, my camera bag / backpack that has all my equipment in it, is also slightly oversize, by about the same amount, but it will fit the 'right' way and still allow the bin to close with no issues. I fly SW and they 'havent' questioned it at all in the last year on 8 different segments.. Now, of course, I know I'm pushing it, and they could ding me I suppose.

I often take a soft sided cooler with me as my carryon, however, not a rolling one. I do have a rolling one about the same size as you've described, but, I've been a little afraid to take it since it is just a bit oversized. The one I take is a Thermos and easily makes it sizewise.

I'd be concerned that it would be too big to fit in the overhead. The measurement where you are 2 inches over would be the height of the overhead.
