I got a rolling book bag at a consignment sale yesterday. The handle pushes all the way down so it is inside, and it also has 2 straps so you can pick it up and carry it. It pushes very well. Can I take this in the park if I push it instead of pulling it? It's just me and 2 kids and last year it killed my arms to carry our bookbag all day. They tried to help but even with just taking a few things it was still heavy by the end of the day! Thanks

Are any of the kids young enough to use a stroller? That way you could hang your stuff on that.

What is making the bag so heavy in the first place? Can you cut back on the stuff you bring in?

Why are you carrying a bookbag? Do you mean backpack? Using the specific word I imagine you're carrying books, but that can't be.

Shouldn't whatever you're carrying be used at some point during the day? So at some point the kids are drinking waters if you're bringing water, eating the food and thereby reducing the food's weight, wearing sweatshirts so they aren't being carried... If you aren't using the items, do they need to be brought?

I've seen them in the parks but as others have said, they are technically not allowed.

Even if they were allowed, I would never do this for one reason: Sometimes in dense crowds you need to put it on your back and actually carry it. Have you ever felt what it's like to carry one of those bags on your back? Those metal rods down the back that hold the telescoping handles are terribly uncomfortable.

I use one of these rolling backpacks on travel day (to cart my photography gear). But I put a second traditional backpack (empty) in my suitcase to use in the parks. Those are much more comfortable to carry.

If all the kids are walking, then they all need to be carrying their stuff. You are not the pack mule. We have insulated water bottle holders on a long strap. Each kid has one and takes her own water. I purchased Fuel Belt pouched to attach to each strap and the girls put their snacks in that. Every person in the family puts a small tube of sunscreen in their pocket. Not much else, besides money and iphone is needed.

Technically there are no rolling things in the parks. However, every time I go, I see several rolling backpacks, coolers, etc. in the parks. I've also seen kinds wearing those wheelie shoes (don't get me started!). So if there are such rules, they're definitely not enforced. At first I figured the people somehow snuck it in (didn't let on that it was rollable but more than once, I've been in line at security behind someone rolling their backpack, and no one said anything.

Get a proper back pack. And if the kids are old enough to not need a stroller, they are old enough to have their own backpack to carry their own stuff.

I agree. We have a bus stop across the street from our house. We are kid free now (the son and his family are miles away) but see the kids every morning. And we have three different buses that stop there - elementary school, middle school, high school. Every single one of those kids has a backpack and I'll bet each one weighs a lot with their books in there.

Plus, having each child take their own backpack means THEY have to decide what is important to them.

There's no need for one person to be a pack mule at anything.

I just wear cargo shorts and can carry everything I need. I sometimes even have an extra unused pocket. Can't the kids carry what they need in their pockets? I think some people drag too much stuff with them to the parks.
