Hi all,

We leave next Sat for 10 days (3 at WLV, 7 at BWV - our home resort). My boys are growing up fast (11 and 13) and asked me last night if they could bring thier rollerblades to cruise around the Boardwalk etc. My initial reaction is no, but I'd love to hear opinions.

I do want to keep them interested in our DVC trips as they get older and wonder if people have had any success doing this, or whether a couple of (pretty well behaved) kids rollerblading would be considered obnoxious!

Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi,
Unfortunately, skate boards and roller blades are not allowed in any Disney resorts or parks. Also, Florida law does not allow in line skating in parking lots or roadways.

Wow - I was not aware of this at the resorts - thanks for the information - it saves me the trouble of bringing them down there for nothing!

I" ll bet they find plenty to do anyway:)

I know - we never have HALF the time to do everything they want to do anyway - it's pretty funny to think they would have much time to rollerblade at all!

They may be able to Rollerblade without a problem from the Community Hall to Mgm. There really isn't anyone to bump into. Last trip, I noticed the woman who was in the Indiana Jones show, rollerblading around the BW between shows. I would guess it would be ok during certain parts of the day.

That's a good point - what a great place to stay out of people's way. Thanks for the information everyone!

Again, it is against FL. law to rollerblade on public sidewalks or parking lots. The walkway you mentioned is public.

I know of a guest that rollerblade on a regular basis on the walkway from OKW to DTD, the walkway from CSR to the All Stars and also the walkway from BWV to MGM and have never had a problem. I do not rollerblade but my son has rollerbladed on the walkway from BWV to MGM, and the CSR walkway and has had CMs walk along with him talking to him and never said a word about it not being allowed. The person I know of that roller blades at OKW is a FL resident and rollerblades all the time at OKW without a problem.

The previous post states that it can be done...we had friends with us 2 years ago and they were stopped from blading because of the FL law....So ya just never know...

Are you telling me it is against the law in Florida to rollerblade on the sidewalk???? I know plenty of people who rollerblade for exercise. I could see not in parking lots and Disney having RULES against it but to say you can't rollerblade on the sidewalk??? Florida LAW???? That don't sound right to me.
If there oughta be a law against something it's those surry bikes. Those things are dangerous. People fly around on them ringing the bell and I've seen people have to jump out of the way. They also weigh a few hundred pounds... I think they would do much more damage than a runaway rollerblader!!!

Not sure if it is relevant............. on the Travel Channel today they had a show Great Hotels and the hotel they were highlighting was in Miami. Anyway, the lady hosting the show was rollerblading on the sidewalks touring the area, the guide showing her around was rollerblading also. I was surprised to see that, because I thought I had also read somewhere that you couldn't in Florida. Very interesting thread.

I believe that Fl law refers to public sidewalks built with public money and has been held up by the courts and private sidewalks are subject to the rules of the builders AKA Disney. While the World maybe a public place it is only for those who pay to play and therefore not subjet to the same rules and laws as Orlando city sidewalks. If you build a sidewalk on your property, it is not subjet to Fl laws about use. Talk to Disney and ask what and where you are allowed to do things and remmember the lawyers have probably written a response.:smooth:

At check-in at every Disney resort you will receive a "newsletter" with a listing of services at the resort and some "frequently asked questions" are answered.

One of these states that "rollerblading and skateboarding are NOT allowed on roadways and parking areas in FL." The statement continues with an instruction to "check with the resort desk for suggestions of safe areas to enjoy these activities."

Just let the resort offer areas where this is permitted for the safety of everyone.

Enjoy!

"roadway and parking lot" is different than "sidewalk".
I CAN understand those... NOT sidewalks.

After rereading this post I just remembered that my son was stopped from rollerblading at the Poly about 5 yrs ago and there is also some kind of notation in the resort newsletter/paper you get when you check in regarding rollerblading. But my son has been rollerblading many times at both BWV's path to MGM and CSR's back path to the All Stars in the past 5 yrs and as I said he has had CMs walk along with him talking to him and it has never been a problem. Also another guest that I know of and goes to WDW about every couple of months rollerblades at OKW all the time. Maybe the Disney rule is not in the parks or on the main paths of the resorts?? I just returned from WDW and I tried to find the resort newsletter/paper they give you when you check in to read what it says regarding rollerblading because I know it is in there, but I go to WDW so much that I no longer save this type of stuff, so I must have thrown it away.

It sounds like it is one of those issues that is enforced by some CM's and only some of the time.

I have seen the CM's at the Turtle Pond Pool area at OKW ask rollerblading people to leave the area, that it was not allowed there. The walkway from BWV to MGM has been open only a couple of years and is not a heavily traveled path usually. So perhaps they are more lenient with letting that go by.

BTW, I agree about the surrey bikes at the Boardwalk. They look like an accident waiting to happen, to me.

I am also a person that dislikes those Surrey bikes, most especially on the sidewalks at OKW. I would love to meet the genius who thought this was a good idea.

As to rollerblades, I was told they are not allowed anywhere on Disney property. Now, we all know that CM's are known for misinformation, so, I guess if this was an issue, I would check 6 or 7 times with the front desk and take the majority of answers (yea or nay) and go with it. :)

It amuses the he** out of me to have heard that this is a rule, but, when you see a video for HH, the first thing out is a rollerblader. Go figure.
