Roll-In Shower and 2 Beds?

Hi guys! I may be going back to the World September / October time with my mother (not completely sure, though), and have a quick question. What do you do if there are 2 people in a wheelchair-accessible room, but they'd rather not share a bed?

Having the roll-in shower made my life sooo much easier last trip, and it saved me from the pain and fatigue of getting into a tub, so I'd really like to have one again, if possible. The room we were in last time only had 1 bed in it, but I was with the fella then, so it didn't matter. Now that I'm going with my mother, it's a different story, as she probably won't be so tollerant of me kicking her in the night :rotfl:. I know that they will always provide enough bedding for the group, but as there would only be 2 of us, 1 double bed would technically be enough. However, if I were able-bodied, we'd be in a standard room with 2 beds - 1 each.

Do either of the PO resorts (preferably FQ) have roll-in showers in rooms with 2 beds? If so, has anyone ever tried putting in a special request for this, and did it work? If necessary, I could just about cope without a roll-in shower, but my trip would be a lot more relaxed with one. I'm not trying to get an extra room - in fact, it would be a lot easier just to have one - but I don't want to disturb my mother's sleep when she's supposed to be relaxing.

All help and advice gratefully received! :thumbsup2

I think the rooms that have only one bed are King size beds - so it is a little bit easier to share. But I understand where you are coming from. I help a young lady that is 17 and on the rare occasion that we travel just the two of us, we have to buy two rooms, because there are only two of us and we are not allowed to share a bed.

And I do think the roll in shower rooms at Port Orleans are all equipped with King Beds.

I think just call and ask...maybe call special reservations directly and see what they can work out for you.

When my DD and I traveled we'd make sure the room had 2 double beds. I know in the past that Port Orleans Riverside used to have roll-in shower rooms wiith 2 double beds but that may have changed. I've heard the Poly does too.

I have th same situation...I always need to travel with a caregiver. When I went 3 years ago, we stayed at the Coronado. They had a King bed in the roll in shower rooms. But since there were 4 of us traveling, we got adjoining rooms..one was accessable and one a standard room. My aide and I stayed in the standard room...with two doubles. The other two stayed in the accessable room, and got a roll away cot for it, so they would not have to share a bed. BUT that does cost extra.
There may just be two of us traveling this year, but I would hate to get separate rooms..and do not really want to share even a King bed.

Thank you guys!

We're not at the stage of booking yet, but if and when we get there, I'll call them up to see what they can do. I just wanted to go to them armed with as much information as I could!

Good to know that POR at least used to have 2 beds per room, it does increase the chances that it still does! Unfortunately the Poly is beyond our budget. We might be able to stretch to CBR, as I know they have larger rooms. Does anyone know if they've got 2 beds per room?

Thanks again for your help; I'm a planner, so always feel happier when I have lots of information available :thumbsup2

Then request a roll away cot for your kingbed/roll in shower room.

Just a quick update: I've phoned Disney and they've said that the moderate hotels only have 1 bed in the rooms with roll-in showers. They can put a roll-away bed into these rooms, or they can put a transfer bench into the tub in the 'standard' 2 bed rooms. Hope this helps anyone else out there facing similar issues; I'll let you know how we get on once we start booking.

Thanks again guys, you've been wonderful, as always! :goodvibes

Just as an FYI I have a friend who just returned and had a king bed with an additional rollaway bed since she didn't want to share a bed with a friend. She said the rollaway was quite comfortable and much larger and nicer than a cot. They stayed at CBR and as the room was very spacious there was plenty of room for the extra bed plus a power wheelchair and some other equipment. ---Kathy
