Role Selection and Acceptance into CP

So I put in my application and had my phone interview on Thursday. Since then, time has been passing SO slowly!!

I am feeling a little paranoid that I won't get into the CP because of the roles I selected. My first choices were hospitality, attractions, and mechandise. On the side, I put Housekeeping, BBB, Costuming, and added Main Gate during the interview.

I am soo scared I am not going to get a role because I didn't pick more easier things to get into (she offered to add me to QSFB and Custodial) I just didnt want to go into those things because in my mind, I'm practically finished with college and didn't go to college to be working those kind of jobs =/
and also b/c i am done others have higher expectations for me (I could technically get a "real job" or start teaching). However I'm dyingg to do the CP!!

To be honest, I heard they have a hard time finding housekeeping people because few people prefer that. I'd almost classify that as being on the same level as QSFB and custodial. So, if you put housekeeping down or agreed to do it, you should be fine. Good luck! Just remember, the CP isn't really about your college education and if you're "too good" for a role. I got QSFB and was disappointed at first, but it's the overall experience of the CP that matters most. Also, some people don't get in at all, so no matter what role you get, just remember to look for the upsides.

i do agree its the experience that matters the most!!! i'd love to work for disney in any role!! i am actually quite doubtful i didnt choose one of the two (QSFB or custodial) as "safeties".

thing is that its not me... its my parents. they did spend lots of money on my education and for me to finish, so they want to see me doing something more than working carts or custodial-- since i could technically be using my degree. i generally just want to make them happy so they dont have to stress me as much (they are "cutting the cord" in june haha)

I understand your concern. I'm kinda in the same boat. I've already graduated with a degree in accounting and as much as I honestly wouldn't mind doing any of the jobs the CP offers, the social stigma can be bad It sucks, but it is what it is I guess. I'll be honest and say that I'd feel a little awkward telling my family I was doing custodial. Even though I know custodial is a GREAT job at Disney! People on the outside just don't always see it that way.


Anyway, I think you definitely put down enough roles. It's true that they always need a lot of people to fill custodial and QSFB roles, but attractions, merch, and housekeeping are also very big. If you had only put down "BBB, Hospitality, and Costuming" then yeah...I'd be a bit worried, haha. But you should be fine with your selections! Don't feel bad for not picking roles that you really don't want. On my first CP I added QSFB during my interview even though I made it pretty clear that I was only adding it to improve my chances of getting in. And what did I get? QSFB of course! haha. I then got randomly switched to attractions though for some reason...but that's pretty rare. I guess they had just overbooked QSFB that semester!

Thanks for understanding It feels good to know that there are other people in the same situation as me. Hahaha. And yes, I didnt add them because I was scared they wouldn't consider me as strongly for the other roles if I hadddd. But thats awesomee!

I worked at Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Mickey's Philharmagic for attractions. In my situation I worked 2 attractions, but for some of the bigger attractions you just work one. For instance Fantasyland is split into complexes composed of several different rides, so you rotate throughout the rides during the day. For a large ride like Tower of Terror though you would only work that one ride.

When you work attractions you do a lot of different things. We had a little over 20 positions where I worked and you would rotate through the positions during the day (you'd be at each position about 40 minutes). It's kind of hard to explain how the rotation works, but you wouldn't necessarily do every position every day. And sometimes you do the same position multiple times in one day! It's different every day pretty much. But you'll do things like "greeter" where you greet people as they enter the attraction and check heights if it's applicable to your ride. There's also Fastpass distribution where people pick up their fastpasses and Fastpass greeter where you check fastpasses as people enter the ride. Then there's actually controling the ride. Some rides how a tower position where you watch monitors to check for guests doing bad things or safety violations. There's load and unload where you get people in and out of ride vehicles. Or if you work in a theater show there's someone that stays in the theater and helps people out if they need to leave as well as gets everyone to move all the way down the row. And there's the positions where you push the buttons and make the ride actually go. There's also positions like "stroller parking" where you just arrange strollers (this one was always a pain).

So yeah, there are tons of positions and it all depends on what ride you work at. But you won't just be doing the same exact thing over and over. Attractions can include all of the rides and shows in the parks, as well as Disney Quest, and some other random things! It's a fun role for sure! Lots of guest interaction and ways to make magic. The reason I switched to merch for my second CP was honestly because I got a little tired of the angry guests at Dumbo, haha. I found guests to be generally in a better mood when I worked merch...that is until you told them their total!! hahaha

And yeah, you don't switch roles, unless you do the "role hopper" option they have for the advantage programs...but I've never done that.

Anyway, merch is awesome. I worked it on my second CP and am going back to do it again for the summer alumni program! I personally liked merch better than attractions. But I think a lot of it probably depends on your location. With merch it's basically like a typical retail job. You stock, run the register, greet guests, that kind of thing. The only thing I liked better with attractions was the rotations. You don't really have a rotation in merch so when you get assigned to a position (usually a position is either a certain register or stocking a certain area) you're there until your next break. So instead of being at a position for only about 40 minutes, you're there for 2 hours or so, haha. Which isn't always bad, but there were a few registers in my location that were SO BORING! And no one would even come into that area of the store so there wasn't anything to fix or arrange because everything was already done. I would keep hoping someone would come in and mess up a stack of shirts just so I'd have something to do! haha. So in merch it's actually nice to be busier. Or else you just stand there for a few hours...

The way merch locations work is about the same as attractions. You could get assigned to one large place (the emporium in MK) or work several smaller areas (I worked 4 stores and 3 carts in my location). In addition to regular stores you could also get placed at stroller rental or specialty stores like the candy shop or the shop in Hollywood Studios that makes candied apples and stuff. So you could actually be making candy as well, and that's pretty cool! Also you could work at the resorts, waterparks, or downtown disney. There are so many options. If you can think of a place you'd really want to work I'd suggest requesting it by emailing recruiting. A lot of times people do get what they request, but there are no guarantees. I actually requested the Emporium for the summer alumni program. It's my first time ever requesting anything so we'll see what happens

I worked merch at DHS Sunset Boulevard. I worked in that candy store that she is referring to It was fun and definitely fast paced, but then again I also worked in places like Once Upon a Time that were EXTREMELY show unless Fantasmic or Beauty and the Beast just let out. Something like the Emporium or World of Disney at Downtown Disney would be perfect for you! They are huge with something to do at all times.

I know this is a silly question, but is there a way to check the status of your application after you interview or do you just wait for an email? I just interviewed today (I know, I'm paranoid! ) but I just can't stop thinking about it!

There are actually a lot of cute costumes in merch! Well, cute as far as Disney costumes go at least...haha. I still wouldn't wear them out in public! Where I worked had an OK costume. It was a white button-up shirt with a black and white polka dotted floppy bow tie and black gaucho pants. I worked in Hollywood Studios in the shops when you first enter on the left. One of the shops i worked in was Mickey's of Hollywood and it was the "big" shop of Hollywood Studios. So it carried a little something of everything and stayed fairly busy. I also worked at Keystone which sells clothes and jewelry (some of it is kinda expensive), and Sid's which is a really cool autograph shop but no one ever buys anything there. I also worked some carts too. I think I had 3 costumes total (the other 2 were not cute...) but I mainly wore the one I described. My location had a good mix of busy and slow I think. I LOVED it there, but I just want something different this time.

I think the Emporium has a cute outfit too it's like a long plaid skirt with a white button-up and a tie. Fantasyland isn't bad either. It's a long skirt with birds on it and a white shirt with some embroidery. Haha, as I'm describing them I realize they all sound horrible! haha. But it's not bad. I think World of Disney at Downtown Disney would be fun to work at because it's REALLY busy, but you wouldn't be in a park and the costume is not cute, haha.

it took about 6 days... I did it last Thursday night and heard back yesterday morning! i think those who phone interviewed within the timeframe i did are hearing back as well... one girl i read about applied 3 days ago, and just heard back good luck!
